Thanksgiving day, winter quarters bay
THANKSGIVING DAY, WINTER QUARTERS BAY
A special day at last arrived,
At Winter Quarters Bay.
A day of thanks for what we have,
A time to pause and pray.
Thanksgiving Day a time to rest,
From the pounding of the sea.
Re-reading letters sent from home,
To a seaman such as me.
Weary sailors pause to rest,
On Thanksgiving Day you know.
The warmth of home pervades our ship,
In a world of ice and snow.
Thanksgiving Day, the blessings flow,
With the bounty that they bring.
We join together and partake,
Of a meal fit for a king.
So every year Thanksgiving Day,
Takes me back long years ago.
Thanksgiving Day, Winter Quarters Bay,
Amid the ice and snow.
