    Default Book Poem

Poem written by my friend Lisa Nixon for my latest book "They Shall Grow Not Old...."

Like some of their Fathers and Brothers had gone so bravely before,
They boarded their Merchant ships to go fight a war,
But they were just boys and didn’t contemplate,
That death will probably soon be their fate.

Some Mothers hold their hand as they walk to the dock,
Proudly cheering them off in their best Sunday frock,
Waving them off and saying goodbye,
Last time they will look their Son’s in the eye.

In reality they were boys, but certainly respected as men amongst men ,
And many will never see home or family’s again,
Sailing into the night looking at yonder star,
This time tomorrow many will have Crossed the Bar.

These boys have no stubble not a hair on their chin,
Lives that were just about to begin,
Reality soon hits at night, steaming across sea’s so deep.
A place that soon many will sleep their last sleep.

Imagine the family tears as they weep,
Son’s gone down in ocean so deep,
Knowing now they can’t leave the ship for the shore,
A realisation that shatters these boys families right to the core.

Now the family cry’s from the broken hearted,
In the blink of an eye that these young boys have departed,
Family’s destroyed life never the same,
The powers that be forgotten your name.

A watery grave is all you received,
And where is your body so your family can grieve,
A little boys soul lost in a sea so dark,
In reality you should have been on the swings at the park.

How can it ever be seen to be right,
Sending our children out to wars to fight.
So rest in peace Boy Seaman, your duty is done,
Thanks to your bravery the final battle was won.

    ADDED:

Perfect as we near Merchant Navy Day.

A sad time when we remember, if not every day and pay tribute to
    those that perished.

    Heroes All.

    Unsung Heroes:

    Keith.
