    THE PADRE

THE REVEREND PHILLIP AUDEN MNM MNI DL.

Passing through the Pearly gates God would call him `Phil`.
And ponder his replacement with such large boots to fill,
His special bond with Mariners all throughout the years,
Brought humour and encouragement easing countless fears.

He was an active advocate who worked behind the scenes,
On charities for children and tsunami-shattered dreams,
Chaplain to our Mission, since nineteen ninety-nine,
Providing for the soul no matter creed or line.

Popular, respected, his door was open wide,
Not averse to swearing or cheeky word aside,
Presiding over funerals he dealt our departed proud,
With a fitting send off and completion for the crowd.

I picture him on Welsh Back guiding us in prayer,
Inspiring all the shellbacks and families gathered there,
Now his faithful pilot has set his course to rest,
We will miss our Padre he was of the best.

    Capt. J.S.Earl M.N.M. M.N.A.
