    Default Old ship's dog

    OLD SHIP'S DOG

She had sailed with us for many a league,
    To Cape Town and Timbuktu.
From Nome up north, to Sydney south,
    Every port we seamen knew.

For sixteen years she gave us joy,
Chased away the clouds and rain.
Her bark would cause the gulls to flee,
Life no longer is the same.

A friend to every soul aboard,
    And a shipmate ever true.
She'd listen to your tales of woe,
And of cheerful times we knew.

The years had come and passed along,
Left her old and turning grey.
Sad was the day she could not sail,
Though she knew she had to stay.

She resting now at the fountain side,
Neath the shade of our old linden tree.
Gone from my sight, still in my heart,
    No grander friend could be.

Laid to rest with a favorite old bone,
Time had come for us to part.
Four words were etched upon her stone,
    Sleep Softly Old Sweetheart.

Thanks for that Ian, I enjoyed singing it along with the old Ballad of "Old Shep" by Elvis Presley.

There was an episode of Only Fools and Horses, the pub wss in full swing, Del Boy requested "Old Shep" to be played and greased the palm
of the band leader/singer who reluctantly agreed, before he had finished the song, "The pub had emptied," , a great sitcom, cheers ,

Sadly Doc, they just don't make them like that anymore, those were the days when the BBC were good entertainment, and worth the licence money,
gone down the pan now, cheers

Yes indeed JFC the British Comedy as i knew it has for sure gone ! Always loved most all the old Comedy Series of the day, as you say sadly no more!
It was so sad too that they stopped some of the Comedies because they were deemed to offend! What a load of Rubbish! Too many people have no sense of Humour these days!
One that i loved and now cannot even get any of the old Tapes, or Discs was the Love Thy Neighbour! That was Hilarious!! Plus so many more but too man to post.
    Thanks for the Memories!
    Cheers
