    WRECK OF THE SOLWAY

    What happened to the SOLWAY?
    A ship of long ago,
Went on the rocks at Safi,
Smashed to splinters don't you know.

The Master was one Samuel Jones,
And he had his wife along.
His brother Arthur among the crew,
Met the tempest harsh and strong.

The SOLWAY wrecked in the storm that day,
All in November of eighty five.
Slim chance of any reaching shore,
    But all souls aboard survived.

    Grandpa Jones and Mary Ann,
And their son William braved the sea.
There was nothing left the SOLWAY lost,
Just a cup of warming tea.

They sailed for home and England,
    In the S.S. MAGADORE.
But his wife said it's forbidden,
And he went to sea no more.

    Reminds me much of:

The Wreck of the ‘Julie Plante’
    By William Henry Drummond (1854–1907)

Thanks Keith for sharing "The wreck of the 'JULIE PLANTE. Reminds me of some of my ancestors who were schoonermen up Cape Breton ways.

Glad you liked JULIE PLANTE -
    Remember finding it when I
    was fairly young and learning
    it word for word.
