The anchorage of valhalla
THE ANCHORAGE OF VALHALLA
Gone the tempest, calmed the sea,
In this place of harmony,
Brave boys all, at last are free,
Each and all shipmates to me.
Ships come in from dreary past,
Safe from harm in port at last,
Brave boys who died in wartime blast,
At rest from years before the mast.
The ships are there all in review,
All manned by soaring souls we knew,
And there amid that gallant crew,
Seamen all of world war two.
This anchorage, kissed by the sun,
Warms the aches of convoys run,
A beer or two their duty done,
No one asks who lost or won.
Gone that great explosion's roar,
That laid their bones on ocean floor.
Within the albatross they soar,
Their course is set for distant shore.
