    Default Christmas Bells.

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
    Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet, the words repeat,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

And thought how as the day had come,
    The belfries of Christendom
Had rolled along, the unbroken song,
Of peace on earth, good will to men,

Till ringing singing, singing on it's way,
The world revolved from night to day,
    A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men

Then from each black accursed mouth,
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound, the carols drowned,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

It was as if an earthquake rent,
    The hearthstones of a continent,
And made forlorn, the households born,
Of peace on earth good will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head,
"There is no peace on earth" I said,
For hate is strong, and mocks the song,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep,
"God is not dead", nor doth he sleep,
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men!

Henry Longfellow, American civil war poem, 1861-1865.

    cheers JC

Hi Terry, I think children is what Christmas is all about, they see everything through different eyes and have a little
world of their own, unfortunately it doesn't last long as they grow up so quickly, the nativity plays on You've been framed
are always good for a laugh, you are blessed with them mate, so make the most of them while you can ,
    all the best, JC

Sadly there are some councils and governments who would if they could ban such events.
They consider them to be an offence to non Christians!!

The saddest part is that the majority of those they consider to be offended actually enjoy the season.
This morning one of those people and a Jewish man were asked what they thought of Christmas. Both agreed that they and the community they represent have a ball at this time of year.

John you were lucky to see a Nativity play.
Went to grandkids one some years back. I had no idea what it was all about.
    Certainly not about Christmas.

Hi Den, I think today it's all about what the politically correct teachers want it to be and not what it's meant to be, even
now they shy away from the word Christmas and call it the seasonal holiday "or something like that" they are causing
more problems than they are solving. cheers JC

Right on John. In a few years the word Christmas will be unheard of.
It won't be alone though. Freedom of speech and others we now take for granted will be gone.
It's a sad old world when our traditions are taken away by the PC and others of a so called religion.

#7, I get the impression that todays teachers are a bunch of hand wringing tree huggers the trouble is they are passing
their views on to the kids "in a round about way" it's people like this that are stealthily changing our values and along
with the mad mullahs they will change this country forever because nobody is attempting to stop them. cheers JC

We now have about 500 of these so called teachers who want to make a political statement on Tee shirts whilst teaching junior school pupils. The gov has said No in big letters. The reply, 'if you stop us the number in the group will grow'.

Teachers are there to teach not make such statements, that is for the hooligans outside of school.

But now we have a range of Christmas Carols with new words,

    Violent Night

I saw three muggers passing by

Holy Night, Holy fright, the mother in law just saw the light,,

Bang, bang, merrily you are dead

    Away with the fairies

    Oh little tube of heroin

and many others all complete with full verse. Where do these idiots get it from?
