Default Gordon Lightfoot 'Ghosts of Cape Horn'

Due to my interest in War at Sea poetry have found that there's quite an overlap with ballads , and so has got me listening to Folk music . Found this track by Canadian singer songwriter (born 1938) titled 'Ghosts of Cape Horn'.

    "All around old Cape Horn
Ships of the line, ships of the morn
Some who wish they'd never been born
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn

Fal deral da riddle de rum
    With a rim dim diddy
    And a rum dumb dumb
Sailing away at the break of dawn
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn

See them all in sad repair
    Demons dance everywhere
    Southern gales, tattered sails
And none to tell the tales

Come all of you rustic old sea dogs
Who follow the great Southern Cross
    You we're rounding the Horn
In the eye of a storm
When ya lost 'er one day
And you read all yer letters
    From oceans away
Then you took them to the bottom of the sea

    All around old Cape Horn
Ships of the line, ships of the morn
Those who wish they'd never been born
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn

Fal deral da riddle de rum
    With a rim dim diddy
    And a rum dumb dumb
Sailing away at the break of dawn
They are the ghosts of Cape Horn "

The most famous song of the sea by Gordon Lightfoot in the song about the "Edmond Fitzgerold." I remember on a Beaverboat once in Lake Ontario, the weather was so bad it took us about two days to get from Montreal to Toronto. You could not believe such bad weather on an inland waterway On u-tube it has had more than eleven million hits. I actually remember the Fitzgerold back in the sixties, A fine looking ship. R.I.P.

Went to see Gordon Lightfoot in concert in Vancouver in the early 70's. There were some fantastic bands doing concerts in the park that had two? stadiums in it, one being used as an ice rink normally.
Led Zepplin brought the house down when they played Vancouver and we were lucky enough to have got tickets. If we were in Nanaimo over the weekend with no loading going on we would get a cheapo flight via seaplane across to Vancouver to meet up with girlfriends or to see a concert.
    Happy, Happy days.
