Hi Mike, i too did two trips in Cuzco in 1960 as BRS,skipper was Capt.Bryant, mate was Eric Gowland, Ch/stwd was Joe Burns. I seem to remember that she had a habit of setting the lifeboat covers on fire with the cinders from the funnel.
Happy days, I went on to sail in Somers Isle, Kenuta, George Peacock and Pizzaro deep sea, and most of the rest of the fleet "round the land"

All the Bars down there have closed and all the young ladies have all Gone.
I was down the coast a couple of years ago and only one bar is left open on the entire coast, That is the Scandi Bar in Valpo, but not the same , no sea men only locals, and a couple of grand daughters of the young ladies we once knew.[ below.]

Brian just further up the road from that shutter on the right many of the girls in the Scandi bar had little rooms I'm sure many of the lads on here had been inside one or two of them.

Wow, on same voyage. What / where were you? I was Junior Engineer, first tripper. Can't remember Second Engineer's name - rough Scotsman, but meant well. Chief Engineer Roly Jones, lovely old guy, loved his gin!

Mike I think my mate Dave Share was on the Cuzco ,he wrote a great book called OCEANS OF TIME and I'm sure there's a chapter on the Cuzco at around the same time that you were there.

Bob I have a signed copy of Dave Share's book 'Oceans Of Time' and agree with your comments as to what a good read it is. Would highly recommend it to those who chose the Merchant Navy as a way of life in those days and also to those who didn't. Perhaps we only remember the good times as we age, it was a good time to be a seafarer.
I was round the land on Cuzco as 3rd.Mate, think August1963 prior to me joining the William Wheelwright at Tranmere.

Joe Burns mentioned in this thread I sailed with on the Flamenco and Captain Bryant on the Salaverry when I was cadet still finding my feet in this wonderous way of life.

Certainly is a great read, going through it for the second time.
