Default Albert Bush and Bruce Callaby

Hello. I've just joined the site hoping to find some info about two of my relatives:

    Albert John Bush (known as Bert) who served with the P&O Company Merchant Service between the 1930s and 1950s. He died at sea and was buried at sea;

Bruce Charles Callaby who was a steward in the late 50s/early 60s. He left the service in late 1961, but I don't know if he served with P&O.

Any pointers to links or archives would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

    Owen

It could well have been 1961 that he died. I'm afraid I don't even know the year he was born, but he would probably have been in his 50s when he died. I'll see if I can confirm service details with older relatives. I do know that he was living in Clapham in 1937.

As for Bruce, yes he was born in Sept 1942 in Bicker. He was between ships at Christmas 1961/ New Year 1962 and had applied to the Met Police and been accepted.

Am I able to post photos and would they be any help?

    Thanks,

    Owen

    Seamans Pouch for Callaby

R700949 CALLABY B C 14/06/1942 BICKER | The National Archives You will need his CRS10 for complete Sea Service Record though.
But the Seamans Pouch should have a Pic of when he joined plus a few little info.

Only info on Bush i am afraid is

    Cheers

Many thanks for this information - you've given me some more pieces of the jigsaw. Is there a way of getting a duplicate CRS10? I don't think any of the family would have the original.

    Hello Owen
The CRS10 for Callaby, should be found within this Series at Kew. Again have to apply. If applying always also Quote his Seamans Pouch Reference given in my other post Re:
    Reference: (BT 372/2172/92)
this helps them to locate the CRS10 faster.
    Cheers(

As for Albert Bush, as he was at Sea when he died, there will be no record as such. But you can always contact the Southampton Archives Maritime Section, and ask for assistance.

I've just found some info, but I don't know if this is the same man. The New Year's Honours List for 1946 says that The British Empire Medal was awarded to:
Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class Albert Bush C/M1068

    Could this be him?

Owen did you find this on Google. Going into the honours lists for most years can be found on such , even my name for New Year 1991. However if want further information would have to write to the Chancellory for , or maybe in St Paul’s Cathedral London where they have their own chapel and believe also records. If you want the address of the Chancellory can let you have if you genuinely need it to advance your information. For all those who seek info. About their past relatives , the Chancellory will be the one with the positive genuine results as all Investitures are recorded and kept there. But will only I would imagine reply to genuine relatives of such. Cheers JS

I dont think so as that Entry is for Royal Navy! Unless he was also in the RN.

1946 New Year Honours (British Empire Medal) - Wikipedia

A wee bit more on Bush AJ . Similar to the other i posted but with a wee bit more info!

Now with that Number showing 1109453 which would have been his Discharge Number you may be able to check to see wether this is in fact the Bush you are looking for! I have not yet been able to trace it!??
    Good Luck

Then there is the Medal File , which you can check if its the correct Person by Date of Birth ????

I think this Number 1109453 Records would be held in Southampton with Original Files!
    Cheers

    Look up Southampton Maritime Archives!
