That's extraordinary! This is most definitely my Great Uncle Bert - the Rosebery Avenue address in Boston is where my Great Auntie Nellie lived.

As I'm not familiar with the terminology, could I ask for a little help in deciphering the right hand part of the first attachment, please?

    "Rendered by ...... M.N.O. Gibraltar
    ....... M.N.O Gibraltar.
Remainder of effects left I/C Master
    1109453"

Also, I don't think he was in RN - most likely a different Albert Bush received the BEM.

    Many thanks for your help,

    Owen

As i read it Rendered by Merchant Navy Offices or Officer Gibraltar
And his Remainder of his effects were left in the charge of the Master of the Ship !

Yes, it would seem that this is a different Albert Bush.

    As for the entry:
    "Rendered by [illegible] M.N.O.Gibraltar
B/W and [illegible] of effects to
    [illegible] M.N.O.Gibraltar.
Remainder of effects left I/C Master."

    Does B/W mean "buried with"?

As for the medal file, that is definitely his DOB, but I don't understand the abbreviations that follow - does CL means clasp?

    Hi Owen
Yes i would say thats correct as for the B/W.
As for the abbreviations, here is a link that shows you all. You can see on the Pic , what exactly they all represent
    Cheers

    Hello again!

So, I contacted The National Archives and paid for copies of all the information they hold on Bruce Callaby, but I'm not much further on. Is it possible to use this info to find out where, when, and on which vessels he served? I just tried to attach to this message the three documents they sent me, but they won't upload. Would it help you if I sent them, and is there another way to send them (direct e-mail for example)?

    Thanks,

    Owen

Oh - there they are. They've just appeared!

    Hi Owen
Well at least you have something on him now, but those Cards are NOT the CRS10 ones. They as you can see are CR1 , the last is a R.S.3

Did you Apply through the Link i gave you ?

    R700949 CALLABY B C 14/06/1942 BICKER | The National Archives

If so i am not sure why they sent you those Cards, as the Cards should show CRS10 on them. And those would have all his Ships noted. If you can get that, then you will also need to get his Voyage Record Cards for each Ship from the Guildhall Library, all a long process and again carries a cost.
So as you can see its not an easy task by any means .
If there is anything else i can help with please ask.
    Cheers

After looking at things Owen, seems for some reason his Seamans Pouch is not available for download ?
Dont understand why, as it is listed. As you see here and by that Yellow Card.

    R700949 CALLABY B C 14/06/1942 BICKER | The National Archives

Then if i go father into the actual Pouch Link , you can again see it is there! So possibly you can try and ask them how you can get it, mind you it is his Pouch, so would not have too much info on it, like a CRS10

Browse records of other archives | The National Archives

As all the above only point to BT372 Series, (Seaman Pouches), which is possibly my error to start with Owen! Apologies!

The following Link will take you to the BT382 Series, which is for the CRS10 Cards.
You will now again have to apply for his.
When applying make sure you give the BT372 info , as that will help them get to the correct File in the Series.

This then when you receive the Cards will have all his Sea Service, Ships etc on them. From there one can go to the Voyage Record Cards!
    Good Luck

Yes, I followed the link you gave me and those three documents are what they sent - cost me £12 to be no further on. Perhaps I should e-mail them and ask for CRS10s.

Yes i think an mail asking them why there was no CRS10 supplied may be a good idea. As said there is the possibility that the Original Records for him are at Southampton Maritime Archives.

    Hi Owen
It looks like Bruce did his training at the Gravesend Sea School in 1960, maybe you could find something on their Web sight from around that time.
