Default Memories from the 60's on the Orcades

Thanks Bob.Certainly brought back memories for me . I was 4th R/O aboard her during the shooting of that film. The shots of her from the water were taken in the Adriatic, with the camera crew shooting from one of the ships boats. Yours truly was in charge of com's from the boat.
Recognised my old chief "Annie" Oakley, and the 2nd R/O a Welshhman name of Birch. Saw the 5th too but the name has gone in the mists of time. Well it is over 50 years ago now. Happy days.

that was very good film , looking back at the bridge using sextants , and the radio officer using morse ,ribbon typwriters and the manual adding machines WOW we have come a long way from those days .I served on the Orontes that passed the orcades in the film or maybe it was her sister Otranto, the service looks like it does today though . there was a noticeable lack of dark people eeek.

Mike , can you give the film a date? I am guessing 1960 or thereabouts,

    Thumbs up Pathe Pictorial Reels!

    Hello Bob
A truly nostalgic Reel of Film there, and although i wasnt with the P&O it also brings back memories of i bet so many other great Shipping Companies in those days, like the old UCL Liners as well!
Looking at the Stewards at work on deck, the Cooks in the Galley, the Radio Officers on their sidewinders (recall my days in the RAF as wireless Op not with sidewinders though) and so many other things associated with our heydays at Sea!
Those were really good Ships, the feel of the Sea was then a true experience, not like these days with all these Huge Floating Hotels, and although they are great Building feats,to me no where near as good ! Just my thoughts!
There are other Pathe Pictorial Reels as well out there, some i have put on site quite a while ago, just need to search for them! Goodness knows where now though haha!
But i thank you for this Link,as said it is truly agreat Reel of Film!
And thanks to Pathe as well!
    Cheers

I have given you a definate 5 Star rating on this Thread Bob!

And here is the followup Reel 2

Its great to see that this film evoked some memories for the lads. Maybe we should try and get the video link forum reinstated Vernon. Yes I know we already have one for Youtube vids but you can't post the likes of this one on there. Maybe when Brian reads this he will consider it (pretty please sir)
