    Default Dangerous pokies

I wonder if that bloke who blew himself up outside the Trump Hotel wasn't a terrorist, but had lost his money at the poker machines at Trumps Hotel. Years ago in Sydney a big Yugoslav ripped a machine off it's stand and headed for the door, he was tackled by the bouncers and the police charged him, but from memory he was let off.

I see that Elon Musk was straight in to say there was no issues with the truck, got to protect that share price, damage limitation control.
Looks like it is going to be an interesting year , Trump calls on the UK to dismantle it's North Sea wind Farms, Musk calls on the king Charles to disolve Parliament.
Oh yes going to be the year of Idiots running the world.
After the watershed here (TV) we have a lot of Gambling adverts mostly online apps. But to be fair the ads always say , when it stops being fun take a break. Since online gambling started in the UK the increase in people becoming addicted to gambling is becoming a major problem as is suicide because of gambling debt.
The number of people you see buying scratch cards also through the roof.

The adverts are on all day - Bingo ads is promoting gambling. Tarted up to look like a fun social atmosphere.

Many, Many years ago Rio Stakis took the Government to the high Court in Edinburgh and won.
he wanted to set a fixed odds football coupon, his argument was if you can have fixed odds for horse racing why not for football, the Government of the day said no, the high court said yes.
The coupon came out at the end of the season and I and two others formed a syndicate, we probably won about £1200 between us.
We were looking forward to the next season, the bastard changed the format and we couldn't use our betting system.

Can you still do the football pools these days? I remember my granda sitting marking his coupon on a Saturday evening during sports roundup. The coupons I remember him doing were Littlewoods, but also Vernons and was there a Zetters.

I am sure a few of us woild have been in a pools syndicate at sea. I remember getting a very excited phone call one Sunday night from the Mate on a ship I had just paid off. James get your notice in we have won a fortune on the pools. Soft git, there had been about 15 score draws on the coupon that weekend. Think we got about 10/- each.

Many years ago I used to enjoy a occasional night out in a casino. In Blackpool it was fascinating to watch the b+B landlady's dressed. Up in their finery during winter off season months, the playboy casino in London used to full of Greek Cypriot women who gambled heavily on the roulette with croupiers allowing them to place bets after no more bets had been called, as they seemed to lose regularly.
Best casino was Caesar's in Atlantic city, was up $500 at one time but soon lost most of it on the card tables.

I seem to recall the prize for Littlewoods pools was £75.000. This amount never seemed to change, at least in my memory. Seeing as there were few other legal opportunities for gambling most people did 'the pools'. I'm certain that John
Moore 's revenue far outstripped the derisory 75k paid out each week. At least Liverpool named a university in his name probably after a reluctant donation to the City Fathers.

NSW poker machine players are some of the biggest gamblers in the world, last year i think it was $6billion plus that was lost on the pokies in NSW alone, always remembering that we do not have a big population here, there have been Govt attempts, { Thy get huge taxes and back handers from the Clubs}} to get people to play with a limited card in the machine, then they tried to get the one dollar amount changed back , we used to be able to put shillings in, now the least one can put in is $5. Our small RSL has around seventy pokies, but they have gone so bad for pensioners playing small amounts that it's mostly the young people who play them .

Some one mentioned scratches in this post earlier. They would have to be the biggest con ever. Just think that the main prize could have been won and still they sell tickets weeks if not months after. Have to agree with Des about pokies here in Oz. Luckely I lost interest in them when they went to push button instead of the old handle. Used to give one a bit of satisfaction when loosing trying to rip the bloody thing of or disrupting an entire row when they where linked together lol. What mentallity is there in putting money into a machine and hoping that you get it back out. Ever notice those playing them seem to be in a fecking trance and miserable as sin.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.
