    Default Policeman found gulty

The senior police officer who tazerd the 95 year old lady in the nursing Home down here in Cooma has been found guilty of manslaughter, the sentence can be up to 25 years. There will be a further hearing next week. A few puzzling things were, why did he do it when his senior. a sergeant, a woman , was there? it should have been her call. the other was why wasn't her daughter called, she is the head of the local health system in Cooma. It could be that his voice saying "Bugger it" and tazering her may have had something to do with it.

    Very sad case indeed.
But speaking with a mate of mine who did 30 years in the force he told me this.

The sad situation is that they are taught only one way. They are not encouraged to view the situation as it is, they are trained to follow the simple rule, when some one shows any form of weapon all efforts mut be taken to refrain them.
The guy was just doing what he had been trained for.

    Almost sounds like brain washing.

No wonder Australia are trying to recuit UK Police officers to come and work in Australia, loads of promises about a wonderful life blah blah all the usual bulltish.
Going by the recent performances by some UK police forces as an Australian future employer I would be in no rush to poach our british bobby's
Mind you the mind boggles a 95 year old woman being tasered by one of your police officers!!!! a 95 year old woman , was the cop a bit of a pussy? He could not restrain a 95 year old. Truse I do not know the circumstances but come on a 95 year old.

    My thoughts as well James!
The least he could have done if he thought there was any danger, was to just draw his Batton and Tap her lightly on the Knife, i am sure that would have made her drop it.
As said at 95, gosh a big Man like that ,does not do much for the Police Force does it!

But lets see now what happens as far as any Judgement goes! Mmmmmm????

Clare lived two doors up from us before she went to live in the nursing home, she was a nice enough lady but very tough, on her 90th she did an accompanied parachute jump, she was known as a very tough character. The copper was no pussy cat, a hard man, but I still think my wife's idea would have worked, she reckons they should have thrown a blanket over her, there were enough of them there, two police , two Ambos and a nurse. Still no mention of the sergeant who should have been in charge. The woman head of the police has now sacked him.
He will really be pi$% d off as the police in NSW have just been given the highest pay deal in history a constable is now on $130 thousand a year and an inspector just below a Politician. Meanwhile nurses are still waiting.

Well James, we had a UK copper here, top guy who had worked in a number of overseas posts including Singapore.
He was to be offered top cop here in Victoria, but for some reason, many say Gov intervention, he was only offered second in command.
Top spot went to a local one who after only a short time, maybe two or three years, retired under a bit of a cloud.
The UK guy then went home.
One problem, he was too good at his job and would have made some of the locals look a bit ordinary

It really was a very sad case but it opens up all sorts of speculations. As tasering was considered the lesser of two evils, shooting or tasering, what will be the charge if a healthy looking 30 to 40 year old male or female is tasered and dies and it later turns out that he or she had a bad heart or pacemaker? Would that also be manslaughter as the precedent has now been set? Looks like the police are now between a rock and a hard place when trying to decide what to do. Wouldn't want to be in their shoes as it is looking more and more like your'e damned if you do and your'e damned if you don't and there are the times when they only have seconds to decide. As a kid we always looked up to the local bobby and knew you could ask him for help and if he caught you doing something you shouldn't be doing you would get a clip round the ear or a real talking to but we always respected them. Unfortunately these days they are used as punching bags at rallies and protests and if if they retaliate it's police brutality.

Agree in general what you say Gerald, however the case of the Tasering of this old Lady is to me a really silly move, as has been said there must be a few other ways to have stopped her with not using a Taser!
Surely with such a big fellow , and there was not only him there, the situation could have been handled with more tact.
As she had to use a Walking Frame to get around, she could not have been too much of a threat to a trained Copper!
As said i do agree with things you say about the Force these days , but there is Tact in what one does!
    Cheers
