Must admit I cannot believe someone has cocked up here . Apparently this is due to problems with the linkspan pontoon at various stages of the tide.
The mersey has a very strong current on floods and ebbs. The new IOM terminal is a short way from the Pier head & the Liverpool Cruise terminal, also the Mersey ferries terminal. Odd how the likes of the Queen Mary2 and other large cruise ships arrive and depart safely as does the Mersey ferries, which also uses a linkspan pontoon
On the Birkenhead side of the river Stena line have the Birkenhead /Belfast terminal. The ferries that use this facility do not appear to have any berthing /unberthing problems.
Is the problem on the IOM terminal the type of ship? I only powered the ships others used to steer the ships perhaps someone can explain.
The above link says the Princes dock, but from what I see it is a river side berth as is the Container terminal further down the river.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet, Stena Line, and P&O Irish Sea Ferries all have ferry terminals in Liverpool. The Isle of Man Steam Packet terminal is located at Landing Stage Terminal, Off St Nicholas Place, Princes Parade, Liverpool, L3 1DL1. The cost of a new Isle of Man government-funded ferry terminal in Liverpool has almost doubled, from £38m to more than £70.6m
