Re: The Sacking of a Union
Have heard such stories Des, but here in Vic most of them are on roads where there is a single lane and barriers to protect the workers.
But it has been known for cars to almost fly.

Re: The Sacking of a Union
No doubt you saw the march here in Melbourne on your TV.
Most of them are workers on big builds mainly gov ones such as roads, schools, hospitals, rail etc.
All genuine workers who are willing to fight for their rights, as they should.
The problem is not them, it lies with the leaders of the union, many of whom have a long history of ' unsavory activity'.
Small building companies such as house builders rarely have union men on site, most of their workers are subbies classified as self employed.
No matter the outcome fo this brought about in good faith we think by the feral gov, the union will continue to exist.
But it must do so in a legal manner.

The workers must be stopped from getting a decent wage, how else will the PM, Albanese, pay for what was his eleventh trip in two years to get his orders from the President of the US? He now has to find enough men to crew the warships he doesn't have; to patrol the South China Seas to protect the Merchant ships he doesn't have either. He is lucky that idiot Dutton has brought up Nuclear power if he gets elected.

Re: The Sacking of a Union
Des, no matter where state or federal they all run when a wage claim comes from a decent source.
Ambos in NSW just got a good wage increase, but here in Victoria the police, ambos are still fighting for one.
Nurses got theirs as well as firies, but Thye should not have to fight for it, they are all essential services and should be cared for as such

They are all now tarred by the same brush, in the last State election the Labour bloke who became Premier promised that the first thing he would do was give the nurses a big increase in wages as they deserved it, two years later and after spending $billions on new infrastructure he says the Govt can't afford it, what a dead head.

Re: The Sacking of a Union
Here in Vic it was announced today that the money being spent on one new road is at a record level.
The reason, casual labor is being used rather than regular ones.
Then the gov says it does not have enough money to pay wage increases to all essential services workers.

Re: The Sacking of a Union
Another reason for unions. In the I think it was the late sixties the N.S.W. Govt built a huge high rise monstrosity along side the Sydney Harbour Bridge,to house older people who couldn't afford a house, generally pensioners. Everyone thought what an ugly building, then came the grab, someone realized what lovely views they had, so the Govt of the day started to try and shift the people out, there was about a ten year fight which the unions joined in, when things calmed down and forgotten the Govt finally got the last pensioner out, then sold the building.
I had forgotten all about it until yesterday when I saw an Add in the paper for a flat going for $54 million with wonderful views of the Harbour and showing the bridge, , Yep, that was the one, in the former pensioner housing building, I'm not sure how many there are, if memory serves about twenty maybe thirty , ten posh ones by now probably.
