From what I have read James the water cannon was first banned by the EU.
The UN then further extended the ban, If still being used then only in illegal manner.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

After about 10 minutes I advanced one place in the invisible queue. I put that down to someone ahead of me on the phone queue giving up the ghost; or maybe even losing the will to live.
    Sounds very familiar Gerard.

    We have our super.
Each year we are told by our super company that we have no tax to pay on any monies we receive!!

But as to inflation, last year in a pub just around the corner from our hotel, a small old fashioned English one with large numbers of locals using.
Few tourist but not enough to make a big difference.
Last year a pint and a medium Chardonay was GBP 10.40.
This year same drink GBP 11.60

Food prices in restaurant we found had not changed that much since last year.
Was in a supermarket and saw a basic loaf of bread at GBP 3.40 and though cheap. Until I converted that to Oz prices and realised how much mor you are paying for essentials.

UK petrol about twice Oz price, and from what family told us the price of power is extortionist.
Council rates are about three times ours here in Oz.
Yet for all that the BOE says your inflation is only at about 2%. But we did see a pig flying past just then.

Overcrowding in UK is contributing to civil unrest added to the number of illegals coming in and you are beginning to see the pot coming to the boil.
Just hope it does not end in civil violence though E. Musk wrote an article for a London paper saying UK is headed for a civil war!!!!!!
Let us know which supermarket was charging £3.40 for a basic loaf so we can avoid it John; currently our local supermarkets charge about £1.40 for a leading brand large white sliced loaf, with their own brand equivalents at about 65p.
We actually travel to S. Shields about once every 7-10 days and buy really good bread from a small family baker and freeze it.
It is top quality but costs less than half your figure quoted.

I went down to London in 1966 after the seaman’s strike in 1966. The Greater London Inner Council were advertising in the National papers “ seamen now is your chance to work a 40 hour week on our sludge vessels” . I believe they were paying a cost of living rise for living there then.Anyhow I joined the queue and finally met the only two Englishmen in the office and there were about 50 aliens working there then in 1966. These two English workers one said to me how can you afford to move down to London and manage to live on the salary we will pay you. I replied, because I had just the read small print in the agreement that preference would be giving to employment on these vessels to those who could not pass the medical for Deep sea so, knew I had no chance. So my reply was very brief and said well if I cant then you are obviously under paying people who are obviously in dire need and walked out . I forgot to claim my expenses and had to go back in with cap in hand and had job getting a third class train ticket out of them . Don’t know how much they paid for a London allowance but bet it was peanuts. JS.

John, water cannon is not banned in the EU nor is it banned in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. During the riots in the Republic of Ireland last year in Dublin The Irish goverment asked the NI assembly could yhey borrow a couple of the PSNI water cannons to manage crowd control.
Water Cannon was banned in England & Wales by the then Home secretary Theresa May.

    Hi John.
A good report if I can put it that way.
The main reason in my estimation that Aus has high inflation is entirely on the Govt spending on defense, the money spent here is far in excess of a country of similar numbers of people, Every time one of our senior politicians has a trip to America back he comes and the Gov't spends more on American made arms. There has been a 3% wage drop , inflation goes up, then there is a 3% wage rise the inflation goes up. no mention of the stock market.

In our youth Des to be a member of the stock market was only for a certain class of people. Then it was a government sponsored effort to get the working man into buying shares , the Australian government no doubt you have seen the advert on telly about the Bookmakers Advert and immediately after it the government one about your chances of becoming a pauper. They should also put the same downer on the share market after all they sponsored it for the working man ? JS

As to the loaf of bread price, that was in a Southampton supermarket, think it was maybe Morrisons or similar.

It came back when converted to Oz money at about $ 3.40 which I though a bit high.
Our basic loaf price is about &2.40 in major supermarkets.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

The original cause of the riot was misinformation put out about the status and nationality of the attacker. It has now been found and proved that the misinformation was put out on the internet by a Pakistani journalist.
