Cunards new Queen

Being Cunard one wonders how many "Queens" will be on the new Queen??

What was the pub in Liverpool that was popular with catering crew after they had either signed on or had been into the pool. Was it the Pig & Whistle?

In Southampton it was Skullards Bar' popular with what we called Cunard Yanks.
You could spot them as they would be at the bar with a one pound note stuck behind their watch strap.

Ma Boyles seemed the place to be in the sixties, situated next to St.Nics the Seaman's Church opposite the Landing Stage. Had many a swift one in there sailing day.

Regarding cruise ships, I see that the largest cruise ship in the world, recently suffered a fire on board, which was quickly dealt with by the vessels crew. With around 10000 persons on board the risk of fire must be much greater so let's hope that naval architect takes all that into consideration when designing these bemouths.

I would love to know how they would handle 10,000 panicking passengers.

Maybe they would supplement the pilots ladder with a couple of Jacobs ladders.

#67 It’s not only the passengers that panic John/Tony one would be extremely lucky with such large crew sizes that one got 100 % co-ordination from same , you can always tell someone to do something when things are normal , under extreme stress is a different matter. Apart from that language itself plays a big part of human behaviour under stress. Self preservation also plays a big part when life is threatened. What or who one would consider a strong minded person in normal circumstances might get the surprise of their lives when they showed their true colours in life threatening conditions . You are either lucky with who you sail with , or extremely unlucky , unfortuanetley you will never know until the situation arises. JS

Watched the story of the IlI De France Spelling? last night she was the ship that saved all the passengers on the Italian passenger ship Andrea Doria that was hit by the Stockholm, when she was hit the first two boats to the Stockholm were stewards from the Andrea Doria, the Skipper sent them back to help the passengers. This is no reflection on the part that stewards played in many sinkings both during the war and after, just depends what country.
