Re: Cunards new Queen
Des, we had all our medical history put onto 'My health record'.
A gov run one where only medical practitioners can get into it.
The concept is that should you be involved in an accident, or maybe a sudden medical episode the Dr there can see your past medical history.
Makes it easier for them to treat you.
But only medicos will have access via a gov site built for this purpose.
Never worry about medical when in UK, still got my British birth certificate and two family members high up in the hospital system.

Re: Cunards new Queen
Anyway back to the new Cunard Queen Anne.
Attachment 37107Attachment 37107 Those are from New Brighton at lunch time today. Certainly looks impressive. She is moving into the centre of the river at 4pm were the official naming ceremony will take place.
I did have to smile when the news reader explained that the bottle will be smashed on the bow but not outboard. The idea is so the glass will not enter the water and cause pollution:rolleyes:what a load on cobblers.
To be honest I was more interested in looking at the container port. Certainly were not riverside berths in my days sailing out of Liverpool.
Think that is what they call Terminal 2. Myshiptracker.com tells me they are the MSC Cancun and the OOCL St Lawrence

Re: Cunards new Queen
The breaking of a bottle of Champagne on the ship's BOW is to bring good luck.
According to one report the bottle used on the Costa Ccncordia which sank off the Italian coast the bottle did not break.!!!!!

Re: Cunards new Queen
Did the maiden voyage 3rd to 10th May down to La Corruna and Lisbon. Beautiful ship overall, though the cabins have been "redesigned" badly compared to the Victoria and Elizabeth, with minimal hanging and drawer space. Down side was crew joined too late, they didn't know where anything was, and the service in the main restaurant and cabins was abysmal. She should be OK when they get organised, but we won't go on her again because of the cabins.

Re: Cunards new Queen
Well John in Melbourne will be dissapointed at the latest news from P&O cruises, they are taking their ships off the Australian run, don't know if it's true but one of the news items said they were going back to the North and will be getting a a cheaper crew.

Re: Cunards new Queen
Well Des from my experience having sailed with Cape Verdes , Lascars, Chinese, Philipinos, and Uncle Tom Cobleys and all , the cheapest in my experience as once stated was the Russian crew I once sailed with. However in todays world doubt they would be let out of the USSR without doing their conscription first. Believe P&O is now American owned ? Cheers JS
As regards cheap crews I believed a few years ago that it was on the cards that the next source of cheap labour would be Burma, however there has been no mention of such happening so whether the lid is being kept on this or not dont know if was right or wrong. JS
