As a child I sat with my grandma at a wedding and she referred to the groom as a gay soul and I doubt she meant anything other than happy. Being a Victorian in age rather than a state perhaps she agreed with the Queen that could not happen to two ladies.

Hi Des, good to hear from you. When I joined the force in 1965 and at the end of our 3 week orientation course,we were issued our side arm and 12 rounds of accountable ammo. Over the years polices and attitudes changed and better equipment that made things more bearable for the front line workers.....

U still get a shudder when I see your name come up, reminds me of the British Builder LoL.
The police over here get a tazer don't know if you had them in Canada, they have caused a lot of trouble as a weapon, when used, if the copper doesn't know if the person being tasered has a health problem, ends up being a problem for the copper. THough the woman killed down the road from us was 90 odd.

Hi Des, Sorry if I keep giving you shudders over your time on the British Builder, but for me, first trip 16 year old it was an adventure and a education... As for tasers, we have lots of them and they are used on a regular basis, better than shooting a person if you can help it. We have a over seeing watchgroup, special investigations unit, oversee's police/ public contact where injury/death is involved, not a well liked unit, not quite as bad as the UK though.... Cheers...

I have often wondered WHO, WHEN, and WHY chose the word GAY to be used instead of Queer. Gay basically means happy, Queer means different, strange, out of whack, not the same, funny.
At school I remember there was a dance called the Gay Gordons, I wonder what the Gordon Highlanders Regiment thought about that.

I liked dancing the Gay Gordon's in my youth, no stigma attached to the dance then, and the old folk still dance it so I guess they don't put any connection to it. In saying that could be that next year the Sydney gay festival may all be doing the Gay Gorden's

Hi Vernon you get a dispensation after what happened at Glencoe.

The term Gay Gordons was widely used in this area. I have this photograph/card of a motel named the Gay Gordon about 1960's just out side the city boundary.
The licencing laws then all pubs were closed on the Sabbath but a motel /hotel could serve you alcohol as a bonefide traveller out with your area.
When gay ceased to mean that the motel became The Gordon. It is many miles inside the city boundary now and called the Wellington.
