    Default British Flag ship

Reports on the news of a british flag ship (IOM) Verity has sank after collision with a German ship in the North sea, says search and rescue is ongoing, poor buggers, sea temp must be pretty cold in the north sea.
Cannot find the press report again but all the facts are there about the 91 foot long vessel

Think that report was written by the local sports reporter.

The other vessel involved is reported to be the Polesie a 24000 G.T.bulk carrier IMO 9488097 Bahamanian registered. The Verity is 2600 G T IMO9229178, 92 M long.
Can only hope for safe rescue of Verity crew though as James said the water temperature in the North Sea at this time of year must be freezing
    Regards Michael

Don't think it would have made the news at all if P & O hadn't advised the Press that one of their passenger vessels was involved in the S & R efforts

Really surprised the first thing mentioned was not about the release of oil and dead sea birds , never mind that probably 5 seamen have lost there lives.

I am surprised that you were surprised James, the crew members are rarely mentioned, its always birds and plants first, unless of course a passenger from the P & O vessel happened to fall overboard whilst watching rescue attempts, then the passenger would be headline news in the Press next morning

    Good evening all,

If you can believe anything about the Sky AIS enactment and this vessel finder video - https://www.vesselfinder.com/news/27...e-German-coast it looks like a crossing situation with the Verity as the give way vessel???

    Regards

    Richard

Just an observation, on the BBC tonight from their shipping correspondent(SC), the 'Verity' was hit by the larger ship 'Polsteam' the SC apparently thought that the company name in 15 foot high letters on the hull was the name of the ship, didn't associate the name on the bow and stern with anything.

SC is Shipping Correspondent, but of course you may use your own thoughts

#6 If you want to see blatant misuse of the collision Rules just watch some of Greenpeaces endeavours against the whalers, under normal conditions they wouldn’t be allowed on the Oceans of the world. Apart from stopping them from sailing when they refuse to give their destination when sailing for clearance so would under shipping practices never get one , so would or could be denied entry in the first place. As someone says the media turn any story to their own advantage and anyone who takes some of their reports as kosher should think again. JS

The Faversham Shipping's technical offices are run from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, don't know how that works, where the crew are from etc. The Island also has another shipping company, the Carisbrooke shipping company, also run from a Cowes office, they also take on Apprentice training. Very sad , more seamen lost, and very hard weather in that area, at night, cold etc.

One of the newspapers referred to the missing men as "castaways"
