According to one report there are about 1800 nuclear reactors across the globe.
France is one of the largest users.
About 7% of all power in USA is from nuclear.
To create the same amount of power as one modular reactor it requires a wind farm covering some 36 times the space of the reactor.

John currently the UK still generates 15% of power by Nuclaer power. Yes a lot of the Nuke plants will be going off line within 10 years but at least 1 new Nuke plant should be up and running by then.

The Uk are seriously looking at giving the go ahead for the MNR's. Nothing wroung with wind power generation. The UK is a very windy country.

Yes John, but perhaps the French and others should not own the Power generation plants or other utilities. They should be state owned.

No state or gov of any kind should own, control or manage any form of business be it a utility or an entity.
As Thye make the rules for under which the country and business operate it would be a conflict of interest.

We had a number of state owned utilities here, all stuffed up by various govs over time.

So you do not see a problem that the majority of the UK utility companies are owned by France Germany and the Spanish.

Some of the biggest investors in UK water utilities are Australian pension funds.

When (name removed to save starting ww3) transferred ownership of the 10 public water utilities to the private sector, the PM of the day wrote off their existing debts and threw in some seed money as well. Over the ensuing three decades, the experiment has worked well for investors, but has been disastrous for consumers and the environment.

UK foreign owned Utility companies have got HMG by the short and curlys due to lack of investment. Basically they tell the UK to fund new power plants or they will just walk away when there is no longer a profit to be made from aging power stations. We need new power plants and those new plants should be put back into public ownership. They should never have been sold of in the first place.

Companies will only invest in businesses that will make a profit.

Govs are there to make the rules, business to run business, something most govs have no concept of how to do.

Perhaps if Governments did not sell off national assets to make a quick buck we would be in a better place. I also include past Labour governments in this.
Yes we need private investment, but the Government should always hold at least 51% in the nations Power , water and transport industries.

The so called Big 6 energy companies only British Gas and SSE the other 4 are owned by EDF , is owned by our good friends, the French goverment is the major share holder. Scottish power is owned by the Spanish utility company, Iberdrola. E ON & N Power are German owned.

Here in Victoria our power and gas were sold off to pay the debt left by the outgoing Labor gov
The state was a rust bucket as a result of their actions and inactions over the years.
It was so bad every house had to for 4 years pay an additional $100 on council rates in an effort to get things right.

Have utilities part owned by the state by all means, but have them run by business people, not the public service, they have no concept of what business is.
