Similar to a plan put forward here by one of our feral govs.
Great concept but never got off the ground, or the slipway for that matter.

Penny Mordaunt is the MP for Portsmouth North, suppose she has to try and drum up support for ship building seeing as next year is likely to be general election year.
It would be good if something did come of it but suspect it is just a sound bite.

They will benefit regions across the UK, including in my constituency of Portsmouth North, whose port and maritime sector will I hope play an important role in the life of these vessels for years to come.

The first of the ships is expected to cost £150 million with the other two expected to cost “significantly” less.

The vessels would be 135 metres in length with a breadth of 23.4 metres, and would be capable of speeds of 18 knots with a range of 6,000 nautical miles.

They would have 12000m3 of cargo space, capable of transporting 2,000 tonnes of aid, and would be able to accommodate more than 200 people including cadets, trainees and VIPs.

What yard would be a considered as a preferred builder? H&W Appledore ?

This yard would be an ideal fit for such a project.

But if it did go out to tender Fergusons should be advised not to bother putting a tender in.

Well James, we read all the bad press about Ferguson, and failure over the two unfinished ferries. What is not wildly publicised is that they are completing steelwork on time and on budget for BAE Systems, Glasgow.

So not all bad news then Vic about Fergusons. Sadly they are tainted over those ferries. In all honesty Vic would you take a chance on Fergusons building and completing 3 vessels on budget and on time? To be honest I am not so sure any yard in the UK is currently geared for a contract like that, other than perhaps
H&W Appledore. But I do think it is a pipe dream.

Did Appledore have a connection to W.J. Tatum a tramp shipping company in the sixties.

What a load of nonsense, typical tory rubbish, country on it's knees and this fool seeks investment for pie in the sky.

She should petition for the Prime Ministers Billionaire wife, resident in the UK, to pay UK taxes as the rest of us do.

Appledore was owned by Court Line and was the start of the Court Shipbuilders company.

    Vic
