Remember him years ago , believe his C.V. Was he was an ex grammar school boy, and left school with 2 O Levels . Which was 2 more than me . His manager must have worked hard on his aura as he came across as a highly intelligent man, he was always watchable , and relaxing to watch. JS

He started his career as a reporter on his local, Barnsley, newspaper and always did his own research on his guests.

My last job was tech. supervisor at Yorkshire TV studios. Often worked on Michael shows. He was the most decent and best of TV notables. At the end of one series he commisioned a ceramic dish for each of the crew. Here is mine:IMG_0229.jpg

He set the standard for what a talk show host should be.
Doubt if there is any one now who could even come near to his style.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Watched the BBC 1 last night Parkinson 50 years. The man was a true Gent, yes he did have a few awkward interviews with the likes of Helen Mirren , Mohamad Ali, Meg Ryan. He was simply brilliant at what he did, he loved Billy Connolly.

#7 I remember when Parky was interviewing Rod Hull & Billy Connolly at the same time , Billy not so politely told Rod Hull if he came anywhere near him with Emu he would shove up his effing Ar-se. Wisely Rod Hull believed him

A collage of some of his more interesting interviews were shown here last night.
One with Elton John, could hardly recognize him he was so young then.
