Parky used to be compulsory watching for us, a lovely bloke and a true Yorkshire man, I can't remember any sleese attached to him in all his years of broadcasting. Always had a big smile for his guests. Go gently into the mist.

A friend of mine, a lady who was one of his researchers when he was at the Beeb, said that he was the most genuine of characters,
with no airs and no graces, and always engaged one, no matter who you were, in conversation.
I can vouch for that as he did engage me, a visitor to the BBC studio, in conversation about cricket - and 20 minutes later,
an hour before he was live one air, we were still at it!
Yorkshire (him) versus Middlesex (me).
We called it a draw!!
