Woman & Child fall overboard

On the news a woman jumped overboard on a Stena ferry on route to Sweden form Poland? It would appear her 7 year old fell over and she jumped in after him, I assume she was attempting to save her child. Thankfully they have been rescued and were winched aboard a helicopter , there is no report as to there condition. Fingers crossed thay are both okay. Imagine that if it had been mid winter gets a bit cold in the Baltic then, bet it was still pretty cold even at this time of year.
This seems to happen more often than one would think. Same thing happened a couple of years ago when the Stena Horizon was approaching the berth at Belfast from Liverpool. Again there was a happy ending as both were rescued by another Stena ferry in the port no doubt by their fast rescue boat.
I have been on the ferries a few times with my Grand daughters I never take my eyes of them especially the youngest she is a handful.

That's the trouble people don't watch their kids these days. A family was fishing off the cliffs near Sydney, the woman went to get something when she turned around her husband and seven year old had disappeared, she ran to the edge and they were in the sea, both drowned, signs all around in different languages, wear a life jacket when fishing, must have been hundreds last year, most foreigners.

I went on a cruise once with my in-laws, hubby backed out at the last moment! Therefore, couldn't take my eyes off our tricky dicky explorer of a son for a second. Our daughters were a doddle compared to him

On a sad note read earlier that the authorities are now treating the deaths of the Polish mother and her son as murder.

With rails as high as they are now on most ships it needs you to climb up to go over.
Falling is hardly an option then, so either jump or be pushed.
But some do stupid things such as sitting on the rail for a photo or something and slip off.
Could be the kid did climb, kids being kids.

On ferries I would say if they go over the side it is either by choice or as said sitting on the rail for a selfie. What was the saying at sea , only fools and first trippers sit on the hand rails.
