Re: Just stop Oil
There is a man, a Mr Bean, or should we say Rowa n Atkinson.
Before going into comedy, had a choice that or politics but not much difference there.
He is by his account an electronics engineer.
He spoke at great lengths about the EV.
Has had one and a hybrid for my years but now says the honey moon for them is closing.
Stated about the emissions created in manufacturing, mining etc and the advent of Hydrogen.
His advice, hang on to your ICE it will last up to 5 times longer than any EV.
Happy daze John in Oz.

I have a feeling that hydrogen driven vehicles may well be the way forward in the future.

Re: Just stop Oil
Good shout Vic, never realised how much heavier an EV was over a traditional Petrol car.
I have a Hyundai Kona Petrol 1.0 ltr engine kerb weight is 1297kgs the Hybrid version is 1376 kgs and the full EV Kona is 1740 kgs. That is a few added kgs x 1000 cars in a high rise car park.
I wonder how braking distances stake up as well ? no doubt the brakes are beefed up a bit more , but getting hit with an added weight of 440kg is going to do a lot more damage.

James, you may also have noticed how small cars tend to "grow" as they develop, just look at, Ford fiesta, VW polo, Mini, Vauxhall nova etc. Same model name but significantly bigger than when first launched

Re: Just stop Oil
My Land rover 2000 Kg kerb weight.
Latest from an Astrologer in Baltic region.
Claims the planet has only about 1,000 years left.
Due to gravitational pull the earth is dragged exponentially closer to the Sun ever year.
He said that within 1,000 years the planet will be close enough to the sun for the heat to kill all living creatures on it.
By that time the Sun will be about half way through what is recognized as it's life of about 9 billion years.
At that point it will be at it's hottest and most dangerous before it begins to cool and eventually die.

Re: Just stop Oil
The girlfriend of one of the 'JSO' protesters who was jailed for 2yrs 7mths, turns out he is a German national, says he is finding it hard in prison(diddums!) as he is not allowed to speak to the Press and is facing deportation, what do she/he think prison is for, a debating forum. He is one of the clowns who closed the Dartford Crossing for 40 hours disrupting the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people, increasing pollution by transport of every description having to find longer diversions to reach their destinations, plus costing the public purse hundreds of thousands of pounds in policing. In my opinion 2y 7m was not long enough

Re: Just stop Oil
#117 Im sure your Astrologer could have gone a bit further and passed on a better set of relevent figures John. Just the basics as todays teenagers should be learning in their extended school years which we never got. The Sun is hundreds of light years away . the closest is the moon 240,000 miles away a mere couple of trips deep sea. the earth moves around the sun in an elliptical orbit and when closest to sun is said to be in Perihelion and when furthest away is in Aphelion. He should have qualified such gifts of knowledge about how close it was every year when in such condition. The sun is not even half way through its natural life yet , by the time it is there will be no humans left they will have all destroyed themselves so nothing to worry about. Just to keep things in perspective the Sun is 240 times bigger than the earth and is yet the smallest star in our part of the Heavens. Cheers JS
PS Didnt Hitler boast about his 1000 year Reich, Maybe he knew this Baltic Astrologers Father so had inside knowledge or so he thought. JS.
