James, as to the EU which you say correctly Heath took UK into.
It was De Gaule who said that as long as he was in charge Uk would never be allowed to join the EU.

But as is always the case circumstances change.
No doubt he is happy now no longer spinning in his grave.

Resorting to recruiting from womens' prisons and also reducing conscription age to take younger men.

    John.
Heath took Britain into Europe without consulting the Govt, never mind the people. Maybe he was helped by DE Gaulle, Heath might have told him he would help build a new White flag factory.

Des, the other day at a school where my nephew teaches one teacher asked his class to describe artificial intelligence.

I believe the country with the biggest proportion of men and women underarms is North Korea. One has to ask oneself why must they have armed forces in such large numbers per the population of the country. The obvious answer is they will have no thoughts about going to war given the right opportunity , those millions under arms in fact must become an embarrassment at times to know what to do with. Hostility’s is the obvious answer to open the pressure valve . JS

In my lifetime I have listened to some dumb politicians, but our new Defence Minister Richard Marles takes the cake. His new explanation for buying the nuclear subs is, wait for it, "To keep the seaways open." he means the China Seas. which has never been closed anyway, He doesn't seem to know that about 70 percent of our trade is with China, we get their goods bought down in Chinese ships, they buy our Iron Ore, coal, wheat, cotton you name it, China buys most of it, and the ships that take it are Chinese, we have no ships of our own Politicians got rid of them, that we can say constantly use the China Seas. So by this clowns reckoning he has paid $Four hundred and thirty thousand million dollars to for three nuclear subs to safeguard Chinese shipping. This at a time when China has a 90 year lease on the Port of Darwin; and own half the coal port of Newcastle.
