John, would you rather they be built by people with no Submarine building experience, we all went through some form of apprenticeship, whether we be ship masters, cooks, plumbers etc. Australian nationals and RAN are going to be integrated into Sub Builders in the UK and serve British Nuclear Subs, as the new Subs will be modelled on British designed 'Astute' Class, no doubt some of your nationals will also be USA bound. It takes a long time to train a Nuclear Sub Captain, as the subs are entering service in 2040 (not that far away, but unachievable for many of us!) time is of the essence

Tongue in cheek here , get the Chinese to build them, they will be built on time ,probably on budget and a dam sight cheaper. Let's face it the UK are letting the Chinese and french build our nuclear power stations. This makes a lot of sense, the French are pissed off about the UK&USA stealing the Aussie sub contract & the Chinese are pissed of at the UK government banning Huawie from the 5G network. The USA threatened sanctions if we did not.
HUAWEI will be completely removed from the UK’s 5G networks by the end of 2027, the government has announced, following new advice produced by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on the impact of US sanctions against the telecommunications vendor.

But not to worry we will let the French & Chinese build a nuclear power plant. Now that is what I call good government, piss off the two main contractors home nations and let them build a nulclear possible bomb in England, seriously you could not make it up.

And you know why the French and Chinese are building our nuclear power stations? Gordon Brown sold off the British company that could design and build for peanuts.

The French and Chinese are building (and will own) our nuclear power stations because some short sighted fools broke up and sold off CEGB. That organisation was far from perfect but it was what we'd now call vertically integrated and had the expertise to undertake such projects.
Even if Westinghouse hadn't been sold off (and they are in line to take on some of the work with the new plants) these nuclear plants would still be run by companies owned by the French and Chinese governments.
It should also be pointed out that Westinghouse was owned by the UK Government (via BNFL) for only 7 years. Prior to 1999 it was a private company owned in the US, post it's 2006 sale it is now Canadian owned.
Thanks to more recent Government ineptitude the French and Chinese have also already set the pricing structure for the new plants for the next few decades, to the massive detriment of this country and it's population.
The ongoing farce with energy provision and the railways only serves to demonstrate that such important national assets should never be permitted to be run at the whim of the private sector, particularly those companies owned by potentially hostile foreign governments.

Oh here we go again it was all the Labour governments fault. Vic change the record will you . Yes Brown did sell it to the Japanese company Toshiba and made 2.0 billion in profit. Let's face it he was only following Thatchers lead in selling England by the pound.

They are installing a French Reactor that even the French are having problems with and have been for over 10 years now I believe.

In Flamanville in northwest France, the French energy firm EDF is struggling to finish a reactor in that is a full decade behind schedule and now roughly four times above cost projections.

Well Vic you cannot blame Gordon Brown for that.

Areva, which is building Flamanville 3 for EDF, says it is the first plant in the "new French reactor fleet", and it includes Areva's new EPR reactor. The UK Office for Nuclear Regulation said it was aware of the French Nuclear Safety Authority's concerns about the reactor and would continue to liaise with French authorities.

Vic,do you honestly believe there is nothing to criticise about in the UK. A one time great nation has become the laughing stock of the Western World. And all this has come about by a CONservative right wing government. Especially since Cameron,May, Johnson, Truss and now Sunak.
A government that is up to it's neck in Sleaze, corruption and idiotic ideas. Taking back control of our borders. Try trying to buy back control of the Englsh channel by paying the French another 500 million. How many government ministers have had to resign in disgrace since 2010. Yes I am sure someone will be beavering away gathering a list of Labour ministers misdoings over the years.
To me this sums up the current government.

The Conservatives consider the cause of the poor, but the wicked have no regard for such concerns. borrowed & modified from Proverbs 29.7

But what the heck, only cost about $365 billion over 30 years, just petty cash to some.
    John.
I was talking to a French mate of mine up the RSL Club, he said people don't realise that $365 Billion is three hundred and sixty five thousand million, when it's said like that it takes on a different connotation, enough to end our housing crises,

Ivan, yes I am aware of the need for competent workers on the subs, but our stupid gov made it sound as though all the work would be done by locals.

As to Conservative govs James, in most instances, certainly true here in Oz, they have to clean up the economical mess left by Labor.
Here in Oz only one Labor gov since 1901 has ever delivered a balanced budget, that was in 1986.
Four times in that period the Liberal, (conservative) gov have cleaned up the mess left by labor, and produced surplus budgets.

Too many labor govs have come close to being in the Marksist class, but you cannot increase wealth by dividing it as they often think you can.
No gov of any persuasion is perfect but the concept that a Labor gov was there for the workers is long gone.

    "Socialismis a philosophy of failure,
the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.."--Winston Churchill These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read: Unfortunately ,most voters don't know this.

    1. 5.When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to workbecause the other half is going to take care of them; and when theother half gets the idea that it does no good to work, becausesomebody else is going to get what they work for, that is thebeginning of the end of any nation.
You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
    2. 2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3.The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.4.You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

Well James that's an interesting comment regarding the Tory Party being right wing, most political pundits see it as more left of centre.
Now, do do you honestly believe in Mr Flip Flop and his cohorts would be any better than the current conservatives.
He changes his mind as often as lady of the night drops her drawers.
Yes, under Starmer we won't have a channel problem, he would let them all the immigrants in.
As John in Australia comments the Tories would have to clean up Labour's mess.
