wot !No Proof Readers
In the Orbituarys today there is a picture of Barbara Walters an old News Reader who died recently. Saying born 1929 died 2023. Aged 83. Straight away this is false news even my mental arithmetic works that out to 93. This may appear a minor thing but to her family may cause consternation. To the general public if they notice will just shrug. To me it shows complete lack of proof reading and about par for the course of most daily news today and to it’s authenticity. Maybe tomorrow’s paper might have an apology , but I doubt. JS

John.
That makes me a lot younger than I thought LoL.
I see so many mistakes in the newspaper and I only buy the Sunday one for the TV adds, and they have those; we used to call a Cock up.
Mind you if not for spell check, like I before E except after C, my posts would be stuffed up, maybe the person who wrote the epitaph was a friend of the same age.

Re: wot !No Proof Readers
You have said what it is, the media and the useless rubbish in most cases they put out.
As you say sad for the relis.
But as we now have such a poor outcome in most schools little wonder they are no good at numbers.
This is obviously a case of the calculator not being available.

Re: wot !No Proof Readers
Is Australia like it is here. Pay at the till, give in a £20 for goods that cost say £16.84 the till tells them what change is required?
To be fair I think it is for everyones benefit business owner and the cashier/till operator as makes the tally of transactions easier and what amount of money /cheques etc should be handed in to accounts??
Often at weekends supermarkets employ school 6th formers as Saturday/ Sunday staff. Gives them a bit of money sense and work expeirence.

Re: wot !No Proof Readers
You buy goods here at $1.92 and you will get 7 cents change.
But if it is $1.97 you then pay $2.00
WE did away with one and two cent pieces many years ago and use the rounding up or down system.
But for many young persons on a register they would have not the slightest idea of what change to give unless the till told them.
Cashless society is fast approaching so cash will like the Dinosaur disappear
