Yes James we are waiting and hoping that the Gas prices will at least remain the same for a while, and with talk of them coming down, well that would be a Bonus for all Families!

At present i do not find the price that bad as yet, and i use quite a lot of Gas, as i have an In Ceiling Gas Heater, with 9 outlets, and as its the sort that one cannot turn certain vents off, all 9 Vents are running when on.
But the Heater is really good, and heats the Entire House very fast and quite effecient at that!

But we will have to see what lies beyond all the promises , as per usual , you cannot say Yea or Nay until it is all finalised!

So will just sit and wait and see what transpires in the hopefully near future!
    Cheers

Like most houses here in Oz ducted heating with gas is the go,

Cost depends a lot on how you use it and what other gas appliances you use.

Our less than knowledgeable gov when it comes to finance has done a deal with the 'Greens; to cap the price of gas for the next year.

    Sounds good on paper.

But there are a couple of issues not mentioned by them.

Firstly Shell and the other major gas explorers may reduce exploration and sel what they have to the highest bidder, mostly overseas.

Second point, the price for gas to retailers is contracted some twelve months in advance so the price to the consumer is already set for next year.

Then the proposition of subsidizing some electric accounts for some small business and consumers.
But how far will $1.5 billion go amongst some 26.5 million consumers in households and business?
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Interesting Tony, never thought that kind existed in Uk!!

Do remember the water filled radiators and the heat banks that heated during off peak times,

Have lived in OZ since early 60's but have only seen and used portable gas heaters, ar la the restaurants in Flinders Lane. Sorry if you are using gas as the mad greens who control the government dont like it, so you can go cold next winter, while they make a motzer out of wind farms making energy we cant use until you pay more taxes to rebuild the transmission system. Better buy some extra woollies, made in china using Oz coal to keep warm. The greens import them.

John, used to be common with some builders. Minimal maintenance and heats house very quickly from cold. I renewed it after 26 years service due to problems with the water heater side and it was cheaper to change the whole unit than to rip apart the water heater and replace that.

I had the same in a bungalow built in the 70s, same problem with mine after a few years, had a conventional gas boiler fitted, which was easy plumbing, as used all the old hot air ducting too feed the copper pipe through.

Good idea that Keith. Mine is still going well but will keep that in mind; at least I have no issues with freezing pipes; I spent a good while yesterday up a ladder at my daughters house taking down the 32mm drain line for the condensate from her boiler which had frozen solid from top to bottom.

I had the warm air heating when we first moved into this house in 1967 been here ever since but when they tried to convert the boiler to the new gas system they were here constantly trying to get it to work gave up in the end, so did the same as Keith
