I don't know if seamen took in more about what was going on in the world or not, many like myself were not educated as much as people are today, and yet these same educated people don't know much about the important things that went on, even in their own Country.
Example One
One of the more important recruitment marches in the first World War in Aus, took place all over Aus , it was called the Cooee march, young blokes marched from town to town and across the Country calling out Cooee, and other young blokes would grab their rifles and join in, It was the biggest recruitment drive in Aus history, this march is engrained in Aussie History, and resulted in the biggest recruitment of soldiers for that war, and yet last night on a Quiz show two people aged in their middle thirties, forties hadn't even heard about it, had no idea at all.
Example two.
Most people would have heard of Burk and Wills who had discovered much of Australia, they were found dead under a tree in the triangle that joins Queensland, South Aus and the Northern Territory, two on the same quiz show hadn't heard of them. I don't know what they would say to a question about Hannibal, or even the Roman legions in Britain.

Des, I saw that bit.
But you must remember in school today no history is taught any more.
Only basic English, Math's, Science and of course WOKE subjects.
Little wonder they do not know.

But for the older ones, unless migrants there is no excuse.

Yep me as well Des , watched that Show as always and even said to Irene , gees! Dont these Aussies know anything on their Timeline!

Terrible , as even i knew that answer, mind you to be honest i get a heck of a lot correct! The Wife says i should apply to go one ! LOL

One small problem there Vernon, both ABC and Channel 9 have severe indigestion.
All of those shows are repeats of repeats that have been on before as repeats.
