    Hi Jim,
I'm sorry...But I must take issue with your comment.
I understand fully the attitude of the RNLI on this subject ...."to attempt to to rescue all in peril at sea".... Mmm, Very Noble and, for me, very in keeping with our Maritime Heritage...of which I am extremely proud.
I understand fully the attitude of the brave people who do the ground shift... the dangerous work that the RNLI does of behalf of people OF THE UK who find themselves, by accident or ignorance, at peril on our waters.
That is truly commendable...and I have always freely given to their coffers in order that this work may continue...for the benefit of us all.

However.....If a British person recklessly and needlessly put himself and others in peril on a regular basis IN OUR WATERS, do you not think the RNLI would resort to law to prevent such behavior being allowed to continue?
But these migrants knowingly and consistently put themselves in danger...and they have paid thousands $$$ to smugglers....

I fully realise that the RNLI find them selves in the situation of "Damned if they do...Damned if they don't" But a Publicly Funded Charity should not be being used in this Catch 22 situation.

The people arriving on the beaches are invading the country. They are invading the people and culture of this country: The effects will be resonating for decades....(if we get that far.)
It is that simple....and it is that simple that the job of the Government to repel them by whatever means at their disposal: The Coast guard, The Royal Navy...whatever....

BUT NEVER A PUBLICLY FUNDED VOLUNTEER GROUP ...who, as a result...are losing thousands of donors on a daily basis.
(I'm pretty sure the "management" side of the RNLI will be compensated: The desk jockey's always are.)

I totally agree...it is "A Mess" .... It is simply sad that our beloved RNLI has been caught in the crossfire of the totally inept & pathetic politicians.

    Totally agree James.
Maybe it is time the rest of the UK realised.... "When they have had enough".

#81 when the RNLI are spending millions on overseas projects like teaching people how to swim in a Burkini enough is enough.

Nothing against the crews who man the boats but the Admin need to get back to what the RNLI are supposed to be about.

#75 As you say it is the duty of any vessel to respond to an emergency call regardless of what and who they are .yourself coming from Aberdeen were you at sea on the evening of 6 July 1988 ? If you were at sea in that area you would have seen the biggest fire you are ever likely to see at sea, together with explosions sending debris hundreds of feet ito the air ,the shocks sending waves through the water resounding through the hull ,around this blazing pyre I would guess rough estimate of between 20 and 50 vessels . The obvious response should havebeen as many vessels and boats close in for survivors an ex trawler 2 rescue boats and a work boat took up the challenge together with 15 men . Both rescue boats were destroyed and two seamen killed , in total there were 167 lost . To fire explosion and drowning . Those other ships all had frcs on board which weren’t launched to my knowledge early enough. Saying that however it is the duty of every master to put the safety of his crew first and
foremost . Considering time was of the essence, what would you have done ? JS

#74 Steve in 1991 one was allowed a maxinum of 12 weeks for a work permit without being a landed immigrant . Then had to leave the country and reapply for another viza . My first job out here was on the Pacific Dart , Swires superintendent from HK had to leave every 12 weeks and reapply for another viza , he said how come you stay and I go. ? I used to rub salt in the wound and say because I’m a born again Ozzie . I saw nothing wrong with the system , it kept the Ozzie dollar where it belonged and the work for Ozzie people and the cheap labour out . Anyone of whatever nationality however had to be paid the same Ozzie rate.. However times have now changed once again . Let’s see if the new government can get things as they once were . However I have my doubts . JS

The problem is once they are afloat, nothing can be done. If the French boat went to pick them up, they would not board. If the French boat tried to use force , they would jump in the water, and imagine the hue and cry from that. They cannot be turned round, remember the greeks tried that with fire hoses. So if anyone has an answer to it once afloat i would be interested. With regards to the Rescue craft, are they in an emergency? they are at sea and not in trouble, ie under way and not sinking or medical problems, all the rescue craft is shortening their journey, there is no emergency 90% of the time, let them sit the uncomfortable journey they have decided to take. Yes we would still have the problem when they land, any government has a huge problem here, with no answers.

Call the them what they are , lawbreakers .put them in a concentration camp until trial . Then if found guilty bar them entry to the country , as undesirables . JS

They are in an emergency if they ask for help. Any vessel can be stopped and arrested if in their territorial waters.
Australia does it all the time in respect of suspected drug runners , and formerly the immigrant ships where they were arrested by immigration officers offshore and if found to be phoney were towed back to the territorial waters of the point of their departure and the shore authorities notified of their whereabouts .I think the message got through , but today we have a new government if they are of the bleeding heart type we may go back to square one. That of course is true JS, but they know as soon as they are out of French waters, ask for help, and the taxi arrives, BUT, they don't have to take them on board, many a yachtsman has got in to trouble, and been escorted to a safe harbour. If they were to do just that, escort them, it might stop the calls coming in. Let them sit it out.

    hi steve singleton #81
good morning, Whatever arguments you may put up, in regards of the actions of the RNLI im afraid you will loose, As the RNLI are being used by this goverment as a direct ploy to run these pick-ups at sea, so it will be seen by the general public that this country is giving assistance to asylum seekers desperate to reach the safety of the british isles, This has now become untenable and a embarrassment to this goverment, Why because the general public has been seeing for itself the damage that these supposed asylum seekers are causing throughout this country, i could list the problems from A to Z but i think you are aware of them already, but let me inform you of the most chilling ones, like the contagious desease diptheria outbreak in manston that is not reported ,yet one person died there before closure by this goverment, this is just one of the many diseases that have come to be found in this country in the last year, also note that this has been goverment policy to allow these people into this country.
So as we see the absolute disintergration of this goverment and a election is definitely on the horizen, it will only remain to be seen that whats left of them will be destroyed at the ballot box. The word reform party will become synonymous with their defeat when the time comes and the seventeen million brexit voters will decide both parties left and centre lefts fate, so choose wisely whom you want to fight for your future or whats left of it.
