Default Sweden developes new Electric ferry

The world’s fastest electric ship will set sail in Stockholm next year, cutting commuting times between some archipelagos in half.

The Candela P-12 is a 30-passenger “flying ferry” that will reach speeds of 30 knots. Even better, the ship is said to be the most energy-efficient yet.

Candela has enjoyed significant investment and support from the Swedish government, with the firm partnering with Stockholm for a nine-month passenger trial in 2023.

How can you make a boat fly?
The vessel will use three carbon fibre wings, known as hydrofoils, which allow it to lift out of the water when travelling at speeds above 18 knots.

Once airborne, the P-12 will be able to reach high speeds and travel long distances due to the significant reduction in drag that comes with flying above the water.

Candela’s technology reduces energy per passenger kilometre by 95 per cent compared to current vessels. The firm claims the ship will be even more energy-efficient than a hybrid bus, and will be able to recharge its batteries within an hour.

Candela partnered with the Swedish National Traffic Agency, which has funded half of the boat, with the company funding the other half.

I wonder how it will fair in choppy seas. Only ever on a Hydro Foil once and it was not that comfortable.

Dont really like the looks of it, but i guess if its going to do wonders ? then why not!
Inside looks like they have forgotten to finish things off! A single Train Carriage looks the same ! LOL

    But thats Modernisation for you!
    Cheers

I prefer to stick with the old Type Ferry we have here, and no not the new ones they had bought recently either!

If it is she sure can move.

The World's first electric ferry was built by FjellStrand in Norway in 2015 and is powered by a Siemens propullsion sytem and electric batteries.

Was that a ferry or like this one mentioned a Hydrofoil. The Norwegians have or are developing unmanned electric powered cargo vessels for local use up and down the Fjords. Funny how the Scandinavians just seem to get on with doing things.

I have found that the attitude of those in Norway, Sweden and Iceland to be very different to those of many other nation.
They accept the way things are and get on with doing the best they can with the resources they have.
As one tour guide told us they do not spend years getting reports and findings before doing anything.
Local business and the population are consulted in a manner that helps not hinders the final outcome.

Weather conditions have a lot to do with how things are managed.
As an example, during the periods of 24 hour daylight all road work is done.
From my experience no matter how many hours of daylight here road works are still only done 0700 hours to about 1600 hors Monday to Friday

There are many isolated small communities across these countries, so very often the local community will do all they can not always relying on the gov to do it.
    Resourceful people!!
