It's dark in Southampton

A container vessel docked in Southampton is blocking the light of some local residents houses.
Of further interest is the number of containers to be discharged as against those to be loaded for export.

In the days when towns such as Southampton developed no such thoughts of ships that size would have been considered.
But times change as did the ships sizes.
It will continue to get worse for many with ships of that size.
Maybe they could ask the shipping company for some contribution to an increase of house lighting costs.
Just a thought.

#2 John slightly off topic but I think that when Swan Hunters where building the Esso Northumbria some of the houses in the terraces next to the yard did get thier electric bill paid, as they were in the shadow of the ship.
