    Default Miracles do Happen

I saw this on the news today. A farmer in Cambridgeshire meet was a serious accident, how he survived was a miracle. The fire brigade and the surgeon to be highly praised.

Ah the old slurry pit, don't tell me about slurry pits, we used to be called out several times a year to a cow in the slurry pit, on one occasion it was waste deep. So it was a case of wading in, attempting to put strops round the animal, and then just manpower to heave them out, on some occasions to put the strops under the animal, and then the farmer with a tractor and fork lift to lift them up. Our uniforms would take hours to clean to some acceptable level, and would stink for weeks. Cows are a pain in the ar**, and stupid with it. Just as an aside, we had a call to the back of the Wight to a cow , trapped up a tree!!, the daft animal had fallen down a steep bank and into the top of a tree, with the aid of tractors and fork lifts, and strops, plus use a chainsaw to clear the branches, we got the animal out, and it survived, and was happily chomping grass 20 mins later

Must have been strong stuff to cancel out the smell of smoke.

its a well known situation Lewis, cows seem to head for the slurry pit, and we were called to all sorts of strange situations with animals, but as for ship fires, we did not relish a fire in a ship as well, and that was mainly alongside a berth, ships fire were always highly dangerous, and heavily involving BA, the biggest we had was over fifty years ago now, when the Pacific Glory caught fire off the Isle of Wight, kt

There’s only one good thing of being close to the ground in a fire, that’s where any oxygen if any remaining will be found . JS

Here in Oz on farms now all Quad bikes must be fitted with roll over bars.

But yes farms can be very dangerous places.

I have on two occasions been attacked and bitten by a Sow who had young piglets with her.
Most folk think the cows look so nice, but they can bite and will charge you if you upset them.

Geese, they can be very nice at Christmas but they can also give a nasty nip.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.
