Re: For John Strange
We live about 80 klm south of Mansfield where today at about 0915 hours a magnitude 6 earthquake hit at a depth of 10 klm.
The first recorded as such since the arrival of the first fleet in 1778.
There have been numerous others in that region over the years but never as bad as this one.
Some damage to a couple of city buildings but so far that is all. It was felt as far away as Sydney and Tassie and parts of South Australia according to the news.
At the time I was in my garden shed and the whole thing shook and rattled, indoors two hanging lamps swinging away.
This is my forth such experience of an earthquake.
In 1989 we were in a Motel just outside of Newcastle NSW when a big one hit.
Next day we set off on our journey following the diversion signs, and ended up in the middle of the quake zone.
Asked by the police what we were doing there?
Explained about the signs which it turned out had been wrongly placed.
In 2010 in Christchurch NZ on Boxing day when a big one hit, the pre curser to the February one the next year.
The shake was bad but the noise far worse, sounded like a dozen jets taking off.
Then in the evening one day in 2015 we felt another tremor whilst watching TV.
Just reported two after shocks of a 4 and 3.1 magnitude, no further damage.
The the one today, mate I have had my fair share of them. do not want any more.

When we lived in Christchurch we had many small quakes, at night it was as if you were on a lying on a mattress on the water, gently rolling.
In Auckland there were may small quakes, anyone who wants to experience a quake just visit NZ
