In the Red Sea and cooky said lets put a line over the side and see what we can get.
Oh yes we got it alright, a bloody Shark.
WE did manage to pull it on board but had one hell of a job to kill it, one of the deckies used a fire axe and he was lucky as this one was thrashing about.
Not too big, from memory maybe about 10.5 meters long.

It did eat well but after a couple of days we got fed up with kit so half went back over the side. no doubts his mate had a good feed as well.

But here in Oz we go for Fush and Chups is is mainly Flake they use.
Flake as so delicately known is actually Gummy Shark, but eats very well, bit Like Rock Salmon which I believe is Dog Fish.

#14 Des I think that’s the height of cruelty to animals much as I dislike sharks. It. Is practised by the likes of Indonesian fishermen after cutting the dorsal fin off the shark to release it back to a lingering death.Far better and humane to kill it there and then. Shows mans humanity for what it sometimes really is . Then they shout foul when they loose an arm , a leg or their testicles when a shark takes theirs Cheers JS

when i used to go fishing and bring home dog fish, my kids at that time would not eat it, so my wife used to fry it, and call it solent scampy, they then ate it and loved it, more than one way to skin a dog fish, kt

ha ha another fishy tale, at 10.5 mtrs you would have needed to use the capstan to pull it in.

And that would mean getting power on deck , and the engineers would want to know why they had to put another generator on and that would cause all sorts of upsets, especially after cutting up the shark for cooking and the 2 engineer found bits of string vest in his fish and was worried in case any underpants turned up. The mate refused to pay overtime for fishing and the fishers threatened to get the union in when ship got to Oz and everyone knows what they would do. There is a lot more to this story than it being 20.5 metres and a whale shark called Moby Dick.Yes I agree a real fishy story. JS

Should read about 1.5 meters , and we did use a winch to pull him in.
Most of the 52 crew ate some of it.

nice one John! Saw a six footer caught by Chinese crew once, hung up by its tail for a good while and when it had stopped moving the two lads who caught it stood either side to pose for a photo, big smiles until the beast thrashed sideways and tried to bite one them. Laughed for days after seeing that.
