Funny how Races are sometimes connected to certain things .
Like one Years back when i dreamt about a Winner and backed it as well. Horse called Lightening Flash, had dreamt about this terrific Flash of Lightening the Night before! It came in at that sort of odds as well.
Another i recall is when my dear late Dad walked passed Two Nuns in England and he went in the Betting Shop and saw a Horse called Twin Habits ! Backed at some 50/1 and it romped home !
    Yes these things do happen!

Never really been into horse racing but I did back Aldaniti in the grand national in 1981.I backed Aldaniti at 10/1 10 each way and Spartan Missile also 10 each way I think I got about 150 back I also backed a greyhound Ballyronan Boy stuck 50 on at 3/1 at Chester races on the same Saturday night meet, only reason I backed Ballyronan Boy was because the street I lived in with my mum and Dad as a kid was called Ballyronan Drive.. I was living with a girl in North Wales at the time while on leave. A crowd of us went to Chester races for a night out had dinner at the stadium and a good few beers. My planned night of passion came to an abrupt end when a punch up kicked off between the Welsh lads I was with and a crowd of local Chester lads. No winners on the night as the Cheshire police decided a night in the cells would quieten us all down. They arrested us all on Sunday morning when all sobered up. Guest appearance early Monday morning in front of JP Spencer Chester assizes court. Drunk and disorderly and affray. Think it cost me 75 and bound over to keep the peace for 12 months.
Must admit looking at those in the dock and the Chester lads I must have given a good account of myself got a fat lip others had a few more battle scares than me.
Women are fickle though Cary's had me bags packed for me by Monday afternoon lol.

Our son was born in January 1980, he is called Ben. I used to have the odd flutter on the horses at that time. A couple of months later, Grand national day and my wife, who has never placed a bet in her life, looks in the pullout in the paper and sees a horse called Ben Nevis. Put a bet on that one for me she says, I look at the form and say that’s got no chance and didn’t put a bet on him.
Of course he won in a race in which there were only 4 finishers, a lot of horses fell, refused or were pulled up and he was so far behind he managed to avoid the chaos and went on to win.
Every grand national since I am reminded of the year she picked the winner and I didn’t back it for her.
    Regards Michael

Im not a gambler Michael, but my wife likes to bet on the Melbourne Cup every year when Australia stops for a moment in time and indulges in festivities. I have to go into the betting shop and put a 1 dollar each way on about 5 different horses , which she always forgets to pay me , if she wins she is in raptures with her 5 dollar winnings , forgetting it cost me $10 to get her 5. Went to the races once in Singapore with the chief steward. Big racecourse only thing lacking was the horses and jockeys. Everything else as normal. Put your bets on and watch a TV screen of the race in Malaysia. Put me off for a days outing . JS

Vintage Crop came here to Oz for the Melbourne cup a few years back.
Irish trained by O'Brien so we had to put a few dollars on it, came in at a good price.
Only bet ever on the cup.

Last bet in UK was in Grand National a couple of years ago on a horse called Red Rum.
Think he won more than once.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Red Rum, 3 time Grand National winner, think it was trained by Ginger McCain.

Missed putting a few bob on Foinavon (1958–1971)
was an Irish racehorse. He won the Grand National
in 1967 at odds of 100/1.
