Shipping agent GAC reports that the grounding occurred at 7:40 a.m. local time on Tuesday (March 23) at kilometer 151 after the vessel suffered a black out while transiting.

It seems the Ever Given had just begun its transit of the waterway as part of a northbound convoy when the incident occurred.
“The 199,489 GT ship was fifth in the northbound convoy. None of the vessels before it were affected, but the 15 behind it were detained at anchorages waiting for the Canal to be cleared. The southbound convoy was also blocked,” GAC reported.

Should be called Forever Given looks like they want to give it to Egypt.
Or the wheel man was like me passing Mt Etna once were I kept turning the wheel slightly to keep looking at it, the skipper came in and said you may as well go hard a starboard Jenkins we are nearly there anyway.

Deliberate or otherwise it will have an effect on oil prices, so many tankers go through there daily.
Mostly to Asia and estimated about 24 million barrels a day go through there.

John good job you were not a navigator at sea, why would the suez canal being blocked effect oil shipments to Asia?? I doubt very much if Asia buys a lot of oil from Libya.

Looks like a skyhook job if she needs lightening, no sense in putting a craned feeder vessel alongside as crane would not reach top tier, same with barges and floating crane (if one nearby), could take off some bunkers, but doubt they are in for'd tanks and its the bulbous bow which is hard aground, not much of a tidal difference to help, so it looks like tug power and possibly bulldozers around the bow to try and remove some groundwork.

I don't think a 24/48 hour delay will make much difference to world's oil supply, as there are tankers sitting around full waiting for berths or market changes. Condom supply may suffer as all probably used by pilot and Master saying F**k-it

Ref #7: Oil is regularly shipped from Scotland to China. A load, upwards of 200K tonnes, left Hound Point on the afternoon of 18th March. How do you think we in the UK, not for long, can trade for all the goods from the far east that are shipped west bound on these mega ships. Looking forward to my home country being able to capitalize on this trade without Westminster ripping us off in the future!
