Re: Suez Blocked
No Containers taken off and she is Re floated! Took many Tugs from wherever to do the job, but they eventually got her free and she is once again getting ready for her trip to wherever she was going.
But the backlog of Ships , Wow! Showed on the News here is tremendous! Ships all over the place waiting their turn to get through.
This must have cost Billions of Dollars so far, i wonder now what the reflextion of all this will have on the Economy and the price of Oil ???
Eeeeeek!
Terrific Effort by All.

Re: Suez Blocked
The latest news here was they have swung her 30 degrees and are waiting until 2pm as it is a Spring tide? they are hoping to pull her clear and send divers down to inspect the hull for damage. The link below gives real time oil & Commodities prices, there appears to be little movement in oil prices. I suspect due to lockdown restrictions certainly in the UK & Europe the consumption of fuel is well down and therefore oil prices are not as volatile as they would normally be.

Re: Suez Blocked
It would seem that they have managed to swing the stern away from the one bank, but the bow is still embedded in the other. Further attempts to free bow on next high tide.

Re: Suez Blocked
When she hit the bank her stern was some 10 meters off, now it is almost 104 meters off but the bow is still firmly wedged.
Oil prices fell as a result of this and will fall further when she is free.
bust Easter is here so prices will rise due to the public holiday.

Re: Suez Blocked
Just been on the news at noon , she has been freed and is underway again. No doubt she will drop anchor and divers will be down giving her the once over. It will be wacky races time again and money will be changing hands to get a bump up the convoy number list. No doubt there will be a big demand for a lot more than Marlboro Red: rolleyes:

Re: Suez Blocked
If that was the BBC news they are(not for the first time) wrong. The bow is still stuck. The Marinetraffic.com AIS website shows the ship still going nowhere with all the attendant tugs, dredger surrounding her.

Re: Suez Blocked
V/L was finally freed at 1305GMT and is making her way north at a far more sedate 6kts, compared to the 13kts she was doing when the incident occurred.

'Yorkshire holds it's breath as the main shipping route of flat caps, whippets and ale is blocked....
Willie Eckerslike.Master of the vessel told us " Well,ee bah gum,one minute we were fine then a small gust 'o wind took us ,so it did, like."
Yorkshire is set to lose upwards of £3.67p a day until the carnage is cleared, which according to our Uncle Eric could 'take bluddy weeks, lad'.
I liked that.It was sent to me by mine and your old shipmate Gulliver. He's fine.
I was surprised to see that, having been away a while, that there was a bit of aggro between some of you in this good topical thread and soon resolved good-naturedly and glad to see the whole thread hadn't been deleted,as used to happen......Things seem to be on the up!
Well, you know how we seafarers are usually critical of the news media's lack of research into our maritime world, well this morning on LBC Radio the newscaster was talking about how Ever Given's bow was still stuck..That was OK,If only he hadn't pronounced it Bo (as in Bo Diddley !)
Take Care All. Hope your Amazon cheap import from China will soon be under way for you aboard that ship !
