Default I foresee more Trouble a Brewing

    Kings Cross is back

Sydney's nightlife is about to ramp up again, with the lockout laws lifted in Kings Cross overnight.
The change means patrons can now enter pubs, bars and nightclubs after 1.30am.
The standard 3:00am "last drinks" time will increase to 3:30am and shots, discounted cocktails and the use of glass after midnight will also return.

With the re introduction of the Booze and Club Drink laws in the Kings Cross Area here in Sydney , i foresee the old days returning with loads of Trouble brewing as it was before the Rules were changed.
Why they have to do this is beyond me, all the poor Doctors and Nurses that had to cope with the ever increasing Emergencies that were flowing in before the Laws were made more rigid, are again going to be put in stress mode that i can see coming and very soon too.

This may be the Norm in most large Cities i know but its just Crazy! Why on Earth would you nowdays want to go and Booze yourself up at 3am in the Morning, when there is Work the next day!? Also allowing more people to get more intoxcicated and then make trouble on the Streets once again.

What a shame this is for NSW.

    Hi Vernon.
I agree with you. I loved the Cross when I was on the coast, great place and as safe as anywhere, it was only in the 90s that things started going south with the advent of drugs, in the old days you would be quite safe there as the crims only did their own, and the owners of the night spots although being in the criminal class made sure that the punters were not attacked. Then came the drugs and the stupid people who though a needle in the arm thought it made them tough. The one punch from the wankers from the gyms full of booze or drugs thought they were great, that is why those two young blokes died from the one punch. It will go back to that as there are still to many druggies on the streets.

The 'Cross' what a most wonderful place.
Somewhere you could find all you wanted no worries.
Drink, drugs, women, substitute women, knee trembles at the back of the pubs, and could also get a good feed in some places.

But just makes it easier for them that want to get Four Sheets under and make trouble Victoria.
No i say that the Law they had up to now should be kept!

It has helped so much over the past ,not so mant cases of Emergencies at St Vincents and the Head Doctor there says likewise!

    Cheers

As was said in the 80's when we came to Aussie i used to go many a time to the Cross and never saw such violence as they had before the new Law came in. It was a pleasant place , may have had Drugs etc but was kept under wraps , you could walk around at 2 am drunk or sober and not be set upon for no reason.

Victoria, going back a few years to the swinging 60's, so called because the death penalty still existed, the Cross was a great place, fun but very little if any violence.

Then came a time when the PC lot said you cannot punish them????

But Victoria, drunkeness as a pass time, no we never set out to get drunk but in many countries it is considered rude to refuse the offer of a drink.
As a result some of us ended up the worse for wear, that is my story and I am sticking to it.

In @977 I was2nd mate on a new build geared bulk carrier loading steel coils in port Kemble (Wollongong) for discharge in Italy and France. Loading was beset by all the usual labour problems and went very slowly, I recall the maximum tonnage we ever loaded in a single day was 139 10 ton coils. Not that we were bothered as we made loads of friends from the locals who took us for BBQ's up in the blue mountains as well in their homes. On night a gang of us were taken to Sydney to see the sights and have a few drinks. We ended up in the kings cross area and after visiting a few bars decided to return to a previous bar/club that we had already paid to get into and had been given a hand stamp to allow us to be readmitted later that night. The place was downstairs and on attempting to re-enter, despite showing our stamps, the door staff would have none of it saying we had been in earlier causing trouble, untrue. Trying to politely get the door staff to allow us back in, they suddenly turned nasty and I was kicked on the knee by a steel toe capped boot worn by one the staff whilst the rest of us, including our Aussie friend who had driven us up all got a punch in the stomach. Deciding that we didn't like the joint anyway we left to find a more welcoming joint only to find all the other places were closing up so we called a day and returned to the ship sober and nursing our bruises.
Definitely not too impressed with Sydney's night life!!

similar thing happened to me in Schiedam, only I was trying to get out. A very large bouncer (I was 9stone wet through) put the bite on me for a tip, which was refused as I was skint, all went downhill from there especially as the 5/E I was with reinforced my denial by jumping up (I said the bouncer was BIG) and stuck the nut on him. I dont remember anything after that until I found myself outside on my back on the pavement with this big guy about to cave in my ribs then I was saved again by the 5/E running out and shouted "run" the bouncer hesitated and looked round so I up and legged it.

#12... I wonder how many think of it as the Beetroot Airport. I always remember their flag as the one with the Xmas tree on it. So maybe at Xmas time they have beetroot instead of cranberry sauce with the Turkey. England is always portrayed as John Bull with a union flag waist coat and a bulldog by his side. I wonder how far off the race discimination laws I am now at ? What a stupid world we live in . Maybe something there the dog objects to .JS
This shouldn’t even be in this post and is only the mention of Beirut Airport that triggered it off. Remove if necessary.JS

I cleared out my small safe the other day and had a lot of foreign money , rupees , Chinese, Malaysian, and various others including $120 Canadian so decided whilst at the bank to change. No go apparently , the lot would only at best have been worth a couple of hundred dollars , but according to the travel bans at the moment no one is exchanging money and there is no call for it. JS
