In 1955 a bottle of Penfolds in Melbourne at 6pm closing time cost Four shillings and six pence, 22 and a half pence,
    Now that was good value,
They didnt call me the Penfold Kid for nothing,

That’s why it was always called Dr. Penfolds Brian , because it was good for you, they didn’t get that saying out in time so another product got it “ reaches the parts others don’t”. It’s now one of the most expensive wines going. We certainly did live like Lords. A lot of Chinese are or will have to go into rehabitation with withdrawal symptoms when it is not available . It confuses me (not difficult) why Cheaper European wines are priced the same as new world wines that have to shipped several thousands of miles compared to several hundred miles. For instance this used to be a popular buy during the summer months while we lived in France. Priced at €1.99 in Chateau Lidl, same wine here in Lidl is £4.99.plonk.jpg I can get better from South Africa , Australia, Chile and Argentina(which I won't buy because I am still at war with the Argies) Even South African wines are coming under pressure now because of Non Black South Africans being kicked off there lands.

funny thing about picking grapes ...i was young fit and not frightened of hard work ...which to be truethful it was ,,,,but a little eytie named tinto was as fast as two of us .....it was hot and he shot off down his row ...no matter how hard we went he was always miles ahead ...there was hungarions from the revolution in hungary ....a young guy smuggled out and given asylum by australia after being sort for chucking molotov cocktails at the russian tanks.....we worked from 6 or7 in the morning till late in the afternoon ....and i can recall standing in a tractor up to my waist in grapes and whole body covered in grape juice.....now my memories are flooding back .....oz was young and free.....and i felt the same ....happy days cappy

#16 Was it the film bitter rice or similar where a well known actress of the times maybe Gina lollogibbrida pulling her skirt up and dancing in the grape vat to pulp them . I can just imagine you Cappy dancing with her with your trousers off and assisting with your size 12s. advancement in machinery pulping processes has a lot to answer for.
That’s the feeling I had for the old Australia a sense of freedom but everything gets messed up with so called progress.cheers js.

Well Marion #12 vinegar at that price what is it special brew.
Now i have a bone to pick with you.
On another subject you said all we would get for breakfast was some unchristian porridge.
Is that because you cannot make the croisants to go with the pate?

May I then suggest Melba toast with Smoked Salmon or maybe some Caviar.

    as you may know,

Caviar comes from the virgin Sturgeon,
The virgin Sturgeon is a very fine fish,
The virgin Sturgeon needs no urging,
That's why Caviar is my dish.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
