    Default Sceptical

Its no wonder I am sceptical about climate change. Just been watching Country File on the BBC, John Craven pops regals with tales of climate change and how the some of the summers in past thirty years have been the hottest in the past 1400 years.
Did a bit searching and UK records on weather only go back to about 1860, so where does he get his 1400 year info?

Paleoclimatology Is the name of the scientific branch of science that studies the change in earth's climate throughout history.

The earth's climate is told by many methods. a few are:

Tree rings on both living and fossilized trees. The width or even lack of width tells them whether there was hot or cold years and wet or dry.

They use core samples in ice which shows records and climate conditions back 800,000 years.

They use glacial land forms, and the rocks within give them evidence of climate changes, vis a vis how far they traveled and how long it took.

They bring up core samples of the ocean beds which give evidence of life forms and vegetation fossils dating back 700,million years ago and by these they can tell how the weather was.

And a load more methods, satellite mapping is one more I thought of as typing.

If they can tell you what the weather was like at a given spot at the north pole in degrees of fifty years 800,000 ago. And a longer time span for the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. Surely the telling of how the weather was in 1820 would be a piece of cake.

    Cheers, Rodney

Rodney I don't dispute what you say, I wouldn't be so bold, but! they are scientific interpretations and recordings of their geological findings, they are not records as in being recorded at the time of occurence and being noted at said time, and as such can only give a generalisation and not a given exact fact. Therefore they are subject to interpretation to suit the presenters preferences either for scientific or political agendas. We are talking about a well known BBC presenter stating an apparent fact of records of temperatures over 1400 years, I doubt that that statement has any veracity in written word, be it on papyrus, stone or parchment, not all viewers are gullible, although there are those who think it it appears on the BBC it must be true. But naturally I stand to be corrected.

Seems to me it would be better for the current generation to act now, just to clean up some of what has been done.
If it all proves true, something positive in our time may help to prevent disaster in the future, if by chance all is
proved wrong, certainly will make things better for those that come after us. We are meant to make the world a
better place anyway. Doing nothing now will not achieve that.

Is it nature or man made nature ? The present birth rate far outcedes the death rate in any case. China tried the hard way a number of years ago by Tyrinical laws allowing 1 child to a family . No way was it enforceable. If China can’t do it no one can. The present clamour about climate change is also man made. The world will Do as it always has , go its own way , and all life forms will adjust to survive to the conditions it produces or go the same way as the dinosaurs . JS

Because they had a bloody vaccine before the virus kicked off!!
Was it their way to keep their population down, but, didn't expect
it to get out of control. I don't really know, just wondered.
