    Default A sad sight

Found this on B.B.C. news website. Although not a fan of modern cruise ships it is still a sad sight to see so many potential razor blades.

Yes a few have gone earlier than was planed but that is life.
Though many of them were of an older class and not what some of the more modern cruisers wanted to see.
Many now want a holiday and a hotel all in one.

Like you Trevor I am not a great fan of the new Type Liners, as its all for Money , but yes it is a sad sight to see so many going the way these are. Must actually loose a lot even though the Scrap Yards do pay well, but surely no where near what they first cost!

I watched a program on TV about this , and saw just how many Ships there were (Are) being sent to the Yards, its really quite alarming to say the least!

One wonders if the Cruise Industry will survive this Pandemic, or is it doomed to die a slow and painful death! Think the Airlines are also on the way out!

What will International Travel become, will it perhaps help the World so that each nation will stay where they were supposed to, or what is the end outcome of all this i wonder!
    Food for thought!
    Cheers

Re Post 5. You are correct Victoria, and very observant. Yes, we have moved back to England in Derby.
After nearly 6 years living in Hungary i was still struggling to speak the language.
Had to self isolate for 14 days on arrival after driving through Austria,Germany,France,Belgium to tunnel.
As we had not finalised everything in Hungary, my wife had to return and immediately went into 10 day quarantine.
She is now ready to return to England and will have to self isolate for another 14 days, so she has had it tough for the past several weeks.
Hopefully life will be back to somewhere near normal next year sometime, and we can get out and about and do some exploring in this region.

There are currently about 15 large (3000+passengers) cruise vessels under construction some due to enter service in 2021 through 2024. So those vessels currently in scrap yards would have ended their days naturally anyway, their demise has just been brought forward that's all. Also TUI are replacing their vessels by more modern vessels purchased from HAL, lets not get too despondent, some people seem to have faith in the future. There are also numerous smaller cruise vessels 500/1000 passengers under construction.

At present it's a very dark time for shipping and airline companies, but I must emphasize until a vaccine is found to wipe out this dreaded Corona Virus, a brighter future for such companies will be non existent.

Ivan I think you will find there rea far more that that on the way.
According to my friend at Princess Cruises there are about 75 being designed and built over the next decade.
All designed to meet the new breed of cruisers.
The older ones who prefer the more traditional stick with the likes of Princess, but the younger ones coming through want all the new mod cons.

As to air travel, it will return, the world cannot live in bubbles for ever more.
International flights will begin by early to mid 2021.

Sorry to all you Travel Buffs! Gosh last night on the News a Grown Lady being interviewed , bursting out Crying, saying "I will never be able to go on a Cruise again" How childish!
