Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
Read today on Australia news website that Neil is going to court to stop Trump using his music in campaigns. He has played Rockin' in the free world and others. I would suggest that Neil allows him to use another of his songs instead, - one called "F***ing up"
The Stones, Tom Petty and many others are objecting to their songs being used for political purposes they don't endorse and strongly object to.

Re: Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
When these groups sell their songs to the public for millions in profits I think they give up the right to proscrastinate to what use they are put. JWS.
I have just sold my house and it would be the same as me saying how the new owner kept it under repair. JS

Re: Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
Not quite the same thing JWS. Every time a music track is played on radio the broadcaster has to pay a fee to an organisation for that right.
You cannot legally copy anything without permission written by an author as that is his property so a song has the same standing surely.

Re: Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
When I buy a disc I reserve the right to play it when. I want.otherwise I wouldn’t buy it. The world would be one continuous law suit otherwise, or better still I wouldn’t bother buying in any case maybe save the world a bit less pollution.. cheers JS.

Re: Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
They can voice opposition that is their right. I voice opposition on having to pay GST or VAT on such articles of entertainment but like others is a voice in the wilderness. JS.

Re: Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
Many years ago during one N.S.W. election I was interviewed by the ABC, it was the last night one could talk about the election before the ban came on, all the TV stations had my interview on their news. Now should I have sued them for using my interview? If not why should these singers do just that, after all they want the public to enjoy their music, just as much as I wanted the public to hear my comments. The song Money Money Money comes to mind.

No problem if permissions are both asked for and granted.

Re: Neil Young vs. Donald Trump.
AS long as the fee, APRA here in Oz, is paid you can use the music for public broadcasting.
But the theme from the Godfather is now no longer allowed to be played as it is considered to be anti social under the BLM issues.
It refers to the Mafia and by doing so denegrates all Italians.
More political correctness madness.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
