Re: Just my little News snippet
Its a different world out there, when we travelled the world we usually travelled together ashore for safety. I think i posted years ago, in , was either Port Elzabethh or East London, 3 of us deck boys were rolled by local white youths, one with a pistol. In fairness we asked for it, behaving like pratts with the local girls. Having got away from them, i always recall about 25 of the crew from the Castle boat coming down the road looking for us, the 3rd guy had managed to run back to the ship and raise the alarm,i was 17 years old, today would still be at school !!! happy days, kt

Yes KT
A lot of that sort of thing happened then as well, and as you say one had to be careful, however i was lucky in a way as being a South African if ever i was approached when ashore there i quickly started to talk in Afrikaans, this seemed to ward most off but still had my moments dont worry! As you say though at most times we were always at least two or more together when ashore,
cheers

Re: Just my little News snippet
Although close by Vicki they were unknown t us ,as we keep mostly to ourselves here, with only a very few People we talk with.
More than likely drug related, but just glad that they have been caught, apparently both the Attackers and Victims were know to each other, thus the quick arrest!
Best to keep within yourself these days its safer .
Cheers

Re: Just my little News snippet
Most shootings in Aus are to do with drugs, either stealing them, or not paying for same. No lose to society, provided no innocent isn't caught up in it, but unfortunately there are nearly always kids involved, what we call sloppy lives.

Pity about loosing those Poems Vicki,i could have translated them for you.
What was his Surname ??
You are lucky as to having a Police Station near you, we have one here it is only about 2km away, however it is mostly closed with big Steel Gates now ,there is just one Police Officer and he is never there. Dont see the sense it it! Any trouble have to be reported to Katoomba Police which is about 10km away. As said this is Sleepy Hollow (Well used to be ) seems things are a changing fast too! LOL

Re: Just my little News snippet
We may be lucky where we live, Police station only a couple of Km away and two cops living in the street, one opposite us.
But Vernon, this my friend is now a sign of the times, it happens every day, just think your self lucky you do not live in Mexico.
In the first three months of this year some 8,000 murders were reported. Or central London, 52 so far known of, may be more not known just bodies in the river somewhere.
But ashore in Cape Town one time we had a BR by the name of Lucky.
Got the name from some event in the war, but not so lucky this day, stabbed in the back by some locals. Thankfully no real harm done.

As someone suggested some time ago, fly the black ISIS flag in your front garden, and you will have a dedicated police team watching your property full time, then just relax when you go on holiday, KT

Maybe that Ms. Ecclestone shud av invested in one before she left her £40 million house with £50 million worth of jewelry in it, which burglars have now relieved her of.
