Trump is going around trying to undo anything Obama achieved - he's seething from the laughing stock Obama made of him at that WH dinner, all brought on himself for his unceasing "Birther" carryon. Great guy for dishing it out, but howls like a stuck pig at anybody fighting back.

    Hi Ian.
My thinking is still that he is a sleeper, as; so far, he hasn't initiated anything; just stirs up all the funny people in the States, as long as he keeps it there were safe.

Mate once this mob get on the wrong path there is no way you are going to bring them back on track. Many a post has gone down the wrong path that started out interesting. Did hear that some cowboy companies had converted tankers into bulk carriers but they where never designed to take bulk cargo hence quiet a few of them breaking up. Not that this will turn the thread around mate LOL.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

Carrying grain would have no effect on the tankers breaking up, it being less dense than the oil cargoes it had carried, thereby causing less stresses on the structure. The tankers would be structurally stronger than bulkers designed to carry grain. There would be no free surface affect as the tanks would be full, so no shifting boards required. The only down side to carrying grain in tankers was the cleaning after discharge, because of all the frames, beam knees and fashion plates on all bulkheads and ships shell.

Hi Ivan, you are right there; brought back memories of climbing over those frames and beams carrying a bucket of sludge and breathing those fumes. Maybe a vacuum pipe might be the answer for wheat.

You are right on there Ivan just being one of those from down under most of our bulkers carry such stuff as iron ore and coal so a bit of bias on my behalf.
Got to thinking thou. Now this could be dangerous me doing that. Wonder if anyone has looked into converting them to carry LNG as that could be condusive with the tankers previous cargo

    Interesting comments about the 'Donald".

Met with about 30 yanks on this last cruise, all singing the praises of him.
    Must be doing something right.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

We used vacuvators in Karachi to discharge wheat carrying tankers, but it was impossible to reach all the corners and extremities in all those port/centre/starboard tanks with all those sub divisions it was labour intensive to clean (no problem in Pakistan), so tankers only used in extremis, as in immediate post WWII.

Les, converting these tankers to LNG may not be viable financially as LNG Carriers are such specialised vessels with specialised materials for their tanks, but there are those on here with actual experience who are better placed than myself to answer that.

Don't ever stop thinking Les, keeps us all on our toes, because no matter what position we sailed in or positions held ashore we are all still on a learning curve from each other, and every position and job on board had its own importance in the big wheel
