Woman falls from cruise ship that left Glengarriff on Tuesday
A 69-YEAR-old woman is feared dead after she went overboard on a cruise ship that had left Glengarriff on Tuesday evening. The American passenger was aboard the MS AMSTERDAM, which had left Glengarriff and was on its way towards Fort Lauderdale in Florida. She was first reported missing by her family on Wednesday morning when the cruise ship was 240 miles off the southwest coast of Ireland.Following extensive searches by international coast guards the search was called off last night and the ship continued its journey to Florida and is expected to arrive there on May 16th. The ship operators Holland America Line offered their sympathies to the woman’s family and friends. Valentia Coastguard were not involved in the search for the woman as it is outside their remit and a Port of Cork spokesperson declined to comment on the matter. Source : The Southern Star

Re: Woman falls from cruise ship that left Glengarriff on Tuesday
That was very interesting Vernon.
It is the end of the World Cruise of the AMSTERDAM that Anne and I had just left. another few days she would have arrived home at the end of the voyage, Fort Lauderdale round the earth to Fort Lauderdale. We got off in Singapore. It is possible that we knew her.
It is impossible to fall overboard. So she could have jumped, or been thrown over.
I cannot imagine someone jumping over only a few days from home after three months away.

I've always found it hard to believe that a person has "Fallen" from a ship or high building, I think they
use those terms just to be able to report the incident with an open mind, nobody knows what is going
on in another persons mind.

Falling from the deck of a ship in my opinion is almost impossible.
Then rails are much higher than in our days at sea so you either have to climb up on one, or get thrown over.
Rough seas could possibly make it a bit easier but when seas are that bad the decks are normally closed.
