NCP Car Parks
I know its not maritime, but members may find this of interest.
NCP the owner of may chargeable Car Parks in the UK is currently fighting HRMC (taxman) over unearned profit.
Leaving an NCP Carpark the motorist must/should have the correct change to pay for the time that their vehicle is parked. NCP machines do not give change and apparently their are signs posted warning users of this regulation.
Now, apparently NCP makes an additional £70k profit per annum from motorists that are to lazy to have the correct change. HRMC are trying to charge VAT on the amount, NCP argue that VAT is a service TAX, and the additional £70k is not a service therefore no taxes should be payable.
